I hate to admit this, but there is nothing more disgusting to me than strawberries that have been frozen, processed, chopped, sweetened, or changed in any way from their original state. So even though the sherbet looked pretty, I was a bit tired of pink. Originally, I was going to make another quiltlet, but thought two pink quiltlets were a bit too much. So, I opted for"A blend of strawberry and lemon flavored sherbets that will make your lips smack with delight."- Baskin Robbins
one of my wooden blocks, instead.
I spent an entire day painting this 8 inch by 11 inch by 2 inch block of wood, first gesso white, then three coats of yellow. Last, I added the red additions on the sides and top. I also added pink dots to signify the tiny bits of real strawberry that seemed to appear in the sherbet.
Finally I added the image transfer. I never thought it was this bright when I chose it. After it was on the block, I realized this looks more like autumn than summer, so
I grabbed several autumn colored silk leaves and glued them to the back.
I thought you might like to see what this looked like when it was scanned. I took a few liberties with the color strawberry, but in my opinion, strawberries should only be red with little green "hats," not colored to look like pink sherbet.
Thanks so much for looking. And while you're here, please feel free to enter my blogoversary HERE. There are no commitments or obligations, just a comment will suffice. But it must be on this post to qualify for the giveaway.

Just gorgeous - I love the image and the colours you used - it's a beautiful piece of work.
Just beautiful--that cardinal is a perfect representation of a Delicious big Strawberry!--Love what you've done.
How pretty this is, loving the yellow! Agree with you about strawberries...and also about water melon...why is it always represented as neon pink? Argh! Well, sherbet or not, you gotta agreat piece from the inspiration, and that's what it's all about!
excellent interpretation of the color choices. the colors are bold and delicious! and i love that you used a block of wood as your substrate. great reuse of materials-finishing the backside is a nice touch.
Vivid...charming...and somewhat reminds me of Christmas...yay...beautiful work and great idea...xxx

These wood blocks are quite handy. lovely.
So lovely!! :)
OMG - just gorgeous Elizabeth! That transfer worked perfectly and the overall affect is just amazing. Such a great job! And what's art for if not to interpret a theme and make it our own?! Good for you.
It's beautiful!!
OK, no frozen strawberries, no Miracle Whip...making lists...lol I think your image transfer on the wooden block turned out beautiful! And yes, it does look like a Fall piece, so I love the added leaves! Stay cool, stay artistic! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)
Love this Elizabeth, wahoo, beautiful job. xox
Fabulous choice- the block with the vibrant bird is perfect!
This is a beautiful piece!
I have to agree. Strawberries should only be eaten right out of the field, if possible.
LOVE the way your block turned out!

Great work.....
Oh that is really lovely :-)
This is quite beautiful... and a subtle use of the colours.
Lovely wood block! We see a lot of cardinals around our area--they are one of my favorites. Great idea to add the fall leaves to the reverse side!
Beautiful - such striking colors. I love cardinals, although I've never been lucky enough to see one in person.
I LOVE your take on the theme- I'm not the biggest fan of pink or yellow, and not so much of them together! I wish I'd seen what you did before I did mine, maybe I would have done something different!
Anyway, your cardinal will make a gorgeous home accent appropriate for Autumn or if it were me, ALL year long!
Hugs,
Stephanie

Beautiful painting!!. The bird is so handsome looking and the leaves are just perfect!. LOVE love it!
I love the way this progressed piece by piece from a sickly summer piece and became an autuminal chic piece. Isn't it funny where these processes lead us?
