Summer of Color: Mint chocolate chip

It's the second week of the Summer of Color hosted by Kristin at Twinkle, Twinkle. I had intended to get her fabulous Ice Cream image attached to the side of my blog, showing my participation, but sadly, I had a bit of trouble with Blogger this week. Thankfully I'm here, now.


This week was all about mint ice cream with bits of dark chocolate. I thought about my coffee stained background paper I had waiting in the wings, just begging to be used as a book page in a scrappy journal.


I fear I covered most of the "dark chocolate" with the pocket I created from an addition flash card I color washed with brown acrylic paint. I have the tags all ready to go, and might even add some fibers after they have been scanned. This is the outside page 1.


The center pages (designated pages 2 and 3) had various techniques. On the left, I used a brown wash to paint a doily, then attached it to a piece of National Geographic magazine image that was blurred by the use of turpentine (I suggest using something less smelly like Citra-Solv, but it was all I had at the time). To those pieces I added a wedge of shaving cream paper.

On the right I used mint green acrylic paint to dry brush the photo pass. Two rubber stamps complete the look of the page.


For the back side, or page 4, I started with a vintage image from a calendar. To that I added another doily, this time painted with mint green acrylic paint, as was the slide mount/holder. I dribbled dark brown paint on both the slide mount and the doily, but they look almost black in the scan. I even added some mint paint to the background of page 4 before I sewed anything to it.

When I saw Kristin's example, aside for the fact it made my mouth water, I thought it looked more turquoise than green. So that's why I chose colors that bordered on blue, as well as green. I really enjoyed this challenge and am looking forward to the next one. Thanks for offering this challenge, Kristin, and thanks for allowing me to play.
