This week's Inspiration Avenue challenge was "Owls" issued by Stephanie of Dragonfly Design Studio.
I started with a magazine background of an ice and snow covered tree (wishful thinking perhaps?), then added the owl which I cut from a wildlife book. I admit the owl and the background were a bit close in color, so the owl may look a bit camouflaged. The owl's body is a can lid I burned in my chiminea last spring. Over the body, I placed a found metal spacer and two found bird feathers that reminded me of an owl's feathers. For the legs and feet, I used calligraphy pen nibs. The bottom color is a bit distorted because of the scan. Feel free to click to enlarge.
I snagged this photo directly from the Inspiration Avenue blog, so I'm not sure how long it will remain on their site, but I won this lovely piece called a Paris ephemera box, and didn't even realize there was a prize for August and September. Blew me away when I read I had won this gorgeous beauty. And Tammy, if you are reading this, I will send my mailing address just as soon as I get my e-mail working again! I've not had a chance to play around to figure out what the problem is, so those of you who have sent e-mails and have not heard from me, I will respond as soon as possible.

I think your Owl is amazing! That it blends in with the background a bit only adds realism. The mixed media additions are very clever!

Here was me thinking you had left town without a forwarding address!! Your owl is so lovely, have always had a soft spot for them and yours is so cute. You lucky girl, love the prize you won!!
Lovely, I actually thought it was a sculptural piece hanging in a real tree at first until I saw your description. It is whimsical and fun. Great work.
I love your owl Elizabeth! Wonderful found objects :)
Great work and love that you made me go back and enlarge it to look again more closely... thought you had created a sculpture!!! Great piece xx
I love your owl! Very clever!
That is a fantastic owl! He does look rather real up there in that tree. Great work. Have a wonderful weekend. Best wishes, Tammy
When I first saw your charming little owl, I thought it was a real wind chime hanging out on a tree..then I noticed the snow! I know you are longing for snow after that miserably hot summer-no wonder you used it as a background.
The camouflage look to the owl is perfect, since that is what they like to do;blend in.
Very fun owl! And very well done.
Everything is looking so good. Congratulations
Hi Elizabeth, I love the owl! What a great idea for your chiminea treated lid. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog the other day. It is always great to hear from you.
Cindy :)
Love your creation!!!
All the layering and the components make this a fun piece, he's fierce looking, must have a cold tushie from that icy branch.
Thanks for the heartfelt comments on my post, I really appreciate them. Also, I'm partial to the football player too.
Good Grief, Calligraphy pen nibs. . . . . Great job, love the little guy. Blessings, Janet

"Love the work and love that you always tell your processes." It makes the art more meaningful.
Your owl is gorgeous and I enjoyed reading how you made this piece. Pretty clever, and the outcome is fabulous.
I liked your piece this week so much, Elizabeth...I caught my eye right away. All of the different elements together...would be a great idea to make come to life. Imagine it as tree art just hanging in the breeze.
Congrats on winning the prize, Tammy makes such beautiful things. ♥♥♥
