I'm sure I'll look back on this post one of these days and laugh, but right now I'm not too sure what to think of it, since this is an art blog. Granted, Wendy is an art doll, so maybe that qualifies, but right now I'm thinking "what was I thinking?" when I began loading the photos. Well, the short answer is, I don't have any art to show you. So here we go!
Wendy looked rather forlorn yesterday morning, hanging out by the gesso.
She was ready to go when I picked her up to go shopping. In fact, she jumped with joy and almost became a blur when I suggested we make our way through the world of grocery shopping.
Anticipation turned to trepidation when we got to the supermarket, though. Wendy was not yet ready to be out in the world and hid behind my purse. Her fear stemmed from the pavement which had been watered along with the plants. Wendy reminded me she was stuffed with Bounty paper towels and needed to be kept dry at all times. She also worried about the armored car blocking the entrance. I assured her the armored car was not a problem.
Wendy and I went looking for Rit dye, so I could do some low immersion fabric dyeing. However, the market didn't carry any dye at all, so Wendy settled for posing by some laundry detergent.
Much to my surprise, Wendy and I struck up a conversation with several people in the aisle and one woman suggested Wendy would look better if she was next to the Clorox. She even took Wendy by the hand and saw to it Wendy looked her best for her debut. Wendy was undaunted by all this attention. I, on the other hand, was a bit embarrassed.
Here is Wendy posing by the Clorox, doing her best to look sweet and innocent. After thanking the spectators for their participation, Wendy was more than happy to return to the shopping cart. One older lady even clapped!
Since we couldn't buy Rit dye, we made our way through the rest of the grocery list.
When I stopped for some fresh-from-the-oven Cinnamon Bread, Wendy pleaded to have her picture taken with it. The gal behind the counter, complete with white hair netting, offered to sit her up next to the bread. However, she scooted out of the picture before I could get her posed with Wendy.
When we got home, Wendy and I checked the mail. Wendy was a bit apprehensive about the mailbox, complaining she would never want to play house (or get locked) in there. I assured her she would not have to spend any time in the mailbox, even though there was lots of room to spread out in it.
All in all, Wendy had a busy and exciting first day out in the world yesterday. I don't plan to take her with me today. Although she was fun, I'm not that confident with her. I must take lessons from Marlynn when she wanders through the Honeysuckle Breezes with Harley, her little red companion. They go everywhere together and enjoy all kinds of adventures. Me? I've been alone so long, I'm not sure I need or can handle the responsibility!
Today's blog came by way of a tutorial. I was looking for craft tutorials that used magazines. What I found was a very colorful blog called How About Orange. Jessica Jones lives in the Chicago (US) area, is a graphic designer, and has a delightful blog. It can best be described as eclectic. She features her own creations, designs, and tutorials, and also provides links to other interesting art related tutorials and information. I was especially interested in the Lobster font post, because it was a font I found the other day on Blogger help while researching backlinks, as well as the post on plant markers made from old spoons. If you want cute, clever, quirky, and a touch of orange, be sure to check out Jessica's blog.

What fun!! Wendy's bringing out your inner child. Venture out and be unafraid! She helped you meet another soul or two.
Hi Elizabeth,
What a fun post! I bet Wendy was happy to get out and about.
Have a great weekend.

Wendy is brightening a lot of people's days with her cheery personality, curiosity and sense of adventure!!! LOVE it!!! Hugs, Terri xoxo
I'm sure you and Wendy cheered up alot of folks with that trip to the market!!! :>)
Gosh!!! Wendy gets about a bit doesn't she??? I hope she behaves herself when you are not around haha XXX
Holy Cow, Wendy - Harley wants your phone number. You had me laughing out loud, literally! It is amazing how many people want to play when Wendy and Harley are out for their jaunts among the humans in the land. I am still LOL. Harley had all of Europe helping him in his adventures including a German policeman in his car...... The Brit police were not too excited to pose with the little red stuffed doggie. You are letting your inner child play which is good, in the long run, from your artistic nature..... Thanks for mentioning Harley - he is blushing white since he is already red. LOL!
Well, I have to tell you that I thourghally enjoyed the jaunt out with Wendy the doll. I had a hard time believing you'd do this, and an even harder time believing all the attention you got/she got and how freindly it all was. I am not at all sure I would have the guts to do this. So your doing it makes it even more wonderful as I got to go along vicariously. Thanks for the trip out.
Oh my, I think Wendy's going to have a LOT of adventures! Too bad I didn't make an art doll for WOYWW- I can't bring around my glue bottle! :^) Love your sense of humor! Patsy from
