My art friend Cris is the assistant editor of the Newton newspaper. She heard about a project that used Starbuck's coffee to draw paintings. The art was created by young people, ages 13-18 who are part of a Youth Organization in Newton (a small town just north of Wichita).

I accidentally took this photo, but I liked it so much, I couldn't help keeping it. I didn't even bother cropping it. I liked how offset Cris was in the photo.

Here is the announcement of the event. And yes, we stayed for all five tastings. I'm so wired, I might not sleep till Thanksgiving. Please click on the photo to enlarge it if you can't read it.

All this art was made using coffee. I spoke with some of the artists and they told me they used a brush dipped in various coffee brews to create these. Some of the artwork went for as much as $60.00. Most went for $30.00 to $40.00. The least they went for was $20.00. All the proceeds went partially to the artists and the rest to Youthville.

Elephants, tigers, and cats (oh my!) were the main themes. There were 21 pieces in the silent auction.

Elizabeth, thanks for sharing this wonderful art show! How creative, and it's nice to see Starbucks being a good community member.
Thanks for sharing!
Cindy :)
