The Girl Next Door

I'm once again at Art Journal Journey joining our host Mia who can be found at Craftartista.  In case you didn't know, her theme this month is Make your own background.  This will be my penultimate entry for September.

This is The girl next door.  Detail images are below.

For this background, I started by saturating a sheet of watercolor paper with coffee.  The shiny item in the background is cling wrap.

I've laid the cling wrap in place,

then scrunched the cling wrap to create patterns.

I allowed the coffee to completely dry under the cling wrap before I removed it.  If you don't allow the coffee/paint/ink to dry before removing the cling wrap, the substrate (in this case watercolor paper) will tear and all your patience will have been in vain.  I left mine for three days before I removed the cling wrap.

The girl is a TH paper doll.  I added computer generated text I outlined in brown pigment ink.  I'm trying to keep the foreground and focal images simple while allowing each background to shine.

Thanks for dropping by today.  Bleubeard and I hope to see you and your handmade backgrounds soon at Art Journal Journey.  You still have a few days before we announce a new host and theme.

I want to leave you with a statement Jimmy Kimmel made Tuesday night when he went back on air:

"This show is not important.  What is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this."
