Failed to Publish has reared its ugly head again. If you haven't heard from me (Sandra, Iris, Jeanie, Tom, Erika, Elke) your comment from me is waiting to "try again later."
Today Bleubeard and I are joining Nicole at Friday Face Off and Annie at Friday Smiles, (see A Stitch in Time) and the other wonderful ladies who also share their smiles each Friday. I realize this may not be something my International friends would know about, so let me explain. PBS, or the Corporation For Public Broadcasting, is a free for everyone television station. PBS relies on public donations and company sponsorship. No cable is needed and it is supported by viewers like myself who believe that television should produce and broadcast quality programing. There are no ads at PBS, only service announcements between shows. Unlike in Great Britain, we don't pay the mandatory TV license fee required to watch TV.
Twenty four percent of my station's funding comes from the federal government. It may be different in other states. Regardless, the current president has decided the shows on PBS are too liberal, so he defunded PBS in his really dumb ass big bill that just passed in both houses of Congress.
Let me ask you a question. When you want to shut down and isolate a country, what do you do first? Close the banks? Restrict movement? No, those come later. First, you shut down the media. Next you shut down libraries. It's difficult to know what is real and what is "fake news" when it's being controlled by the government. Yes, the same government many (not me) put in that office. Here is my take on PBS being defunded. I promise a lot of faces and a few smiles, I hope.
If you live in the states and are saddened and outraged, be sure to vote in the mid-terms so we can work on getting PBS, NPR,
and our National Parks back.
Today, however, please join Bleubeard and Elizabeth at Friday Face Off and Friday Smiles.

...Elizabeth, you found sount ones that I'd like to pass on!
I know!! That is awful! Another awful thing they have done. :(
Just look at Russia. Without fake media the war likely would be long over.
In theory we have to pay for a media that is "making everything nice" but more and more refuse. All money goes into nonsense and there are ads on no end. Hence... I buy and watch series on DVD or turn to news-agencies. So sad we (?) don´t get Discovery anymore. And Sesame Street we have a real bad German version!
To supporting a good one, Elizabeth. And I am not surprised about who stopped supporting cause there is a "true" one...
Hope we all go back to normal soon!
Thank you Elizabeth,
you gave us a lot of laughs today!!
Thank you for sharing today....I'm glad I live in England but I'm not sure everything is better here.
Hugs,
Annie x
This is a really important and unfortunately sad post. It's not about saving money at all. It's like you said, isolating the country and taking away people's first amendment rights of free speech. When I heard the news I was devastated. What is happening to us as a nation and why do people want us to fall so far down in the status of the world. His slogan is another lie. He's not making America great. he's making (or thinks he is) himself great only. hugs-Erika
I agree Annie. England is definitely better...for now anyway.
Here's hoping there are better times to come Elizabeth. Thinking of you, Kate xx
I feel very sad Elizabeth that this man is trying to isolate the people in America very much like Russia does with it's people. It feels like a way of conning people into believing he is the only person to trust when in fact he is hiding information that he doesn't like and the general public cannot be allowed to make their own minds up about what they see or read. Sadly some people are easily manipulated into believing what they read or are told whether it's right or wrong. There should be a caption on some news programs that tell you this is only an opinion. Anyway that's enough. You take care and have a good weekend. Hugs Angela xXx
"Defunded but not Defeated" -- I hope PBS can continue until happier days arrive again.
best photo ever……mister roger’s. the bull $#it that is going on with PBS is …
insert collective use of multiple curse words….here 🤬🤬🤬🤬
How awful! I don't see how that's anything to smile about. I know that you are one of the people that donate to keep it going. Do you think it will be able to keep going just on donations? People are so outraged that they might dig deep into their pockets..... But anyway, it's scandalous.
Like so many others I love PBS and NPR and we regularly support them. I think PBS alone will survive - what really is on the block are all the small TV and radion stations that depend on PBS. Many of them are in rural areas and serve as the only information about emergencies these places have, and a lot of them are actually in red states. I hope it will backfire. I'm so mad about so many things that are happening right now in this country, and you are completely right when you say he wants to isolate us. The result will be that the US will fall back and other countries will easily take over. But with dumb people too lazy to look for balanced information and instead favoring to believe lies I wonder whether we deserve this. Unfortunately those who didn't vote for this and are protesting will suffer just the same. Oh, I could go on... Nevertheless, I still hope you have a good weekend, Elizabeth - and Bleubeard and Squiggles as well.
PBS has been a part of my life since it began in the 70's. Also, you are correct in that taking over a country media is one of the first things to be over thrown. I still can't believe that my entire family excluding myself, my oldest grandson and just one of my nephews, all voted for this. I can't talk to them at all, they are so brain washed.
P.S. Thank you so much for sharing this with FFO and have a lovely weekend.
time to get rid of this worst President ever ~ thanks for the post ~

This is truly awful. How that man is still in office beats me. He's over here in Scotland on a 4 day visit. Unbelievably, he's here to play golf! Brings to mind Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burned! How he sleeps at night beats me. Not that we have, in our UK Prime Minister anything to be proud about. I hope your PBS wins it's funding back again soon. In the meantime, have a good weekend. Elizabeth (and Silver) xx
Horrible
in the past PBS was a valued station as in the beginning there was very little news sources available-now you have the internet, numerous news stations of all sorts to choose from, on cable, regular tv, satelite, cell phones, etc
I used to watch PBS my Mom supported them for years, but they are no longer neutral with just reporting the news, like so many other "news" stations they report "their" narrative of the liberal viewpoint-not just the news-more like their agenda which most news stations are doing as well-but my tax money is not supporting those other stations like I am with PBS-I don't watch it why should I have to pay for it ?
