Friday Smiles 524: Haircut Day

It's Friday, which means it's time to join Friday Smiles, hosted by Annie (at A Stitch in Time). Let's visit Annie and the other wonderful ladies who also share their smiles each Friday.

It's haircut day.   Not for me, although I need one, but for my herbs.

With scissors and a bucket of water in hand,

it didn't take long for this haircut to occur.

I cut more cilantro.  You can tell I've been cutting cilantro for various dishes I've prepared.  I've also planted two more containers of cilantro.

My French Tarragon was getting out of hand, so I snipped more of it.  It is second on the left next to the dill.  It is the brown pot between the white pots in the second row. I also decided I had better cut some dill before the caterpillars eat it all.

Basil and cilantro sit on my table cut off by my camera strap.

This geranium is sorely in need of transplanting.

Fast forward to a few hours ago (Thursday evening when the temperature was 107 F {41.7 C}), this is what I found when I

replaced the hose that sprung a second leak Thursday morning.

I mowed, but that was all I did.  No edging, no trimming, just mowed the grass so it didn't get out of hand after that incredible soaking.

Thanks for dropping by today.  There are no funnies today.  I am simply wiped out due to the excessive heat and lawn care. Enjoy your weekend. PLEASE visit Annie and don't forget to start your weekend with a smile.

Hi Elizabeth, your grass is looking quite good. It's rained so much here that ours needs cutting at least twise a week, in fact it's pouring it down right now. The herbs are doing really well too and are looking very healthy. Make sure you have agood rest now and a happy weekend too. Hugs, Angela xXx PS you might be surprised when you see me this week over at mine Hee! Hee! xXx

That is way tooo hot. I hope you can get a cool break.
You can keep the cilantro - I think its leaves are poison but your basil makes me jealous. Mine has never done that well.

Did you make pesto with your basil? I need to chop some mine. Last night I cut some and made a basil, tomato and grilled cheese. Like a caprese salad in a sandwich. The plants are looking good. Stay cool. I saw on the news about the hot zone and it's the first time they mentioned and showed Wichita. But I know you've said you've been hot. hugs-Erika

Hi Elizabeth you're quite right about the term of course, I should be more careful. The word Indian seems to be used in the UK to mean people from other countries too. Sadly this year they were not Native Americans either and I'm wondering what might have happened to the ones that used to attend. For many years there was a family that used to be at the show. The Chief of the group was a true Native American and some of the rest of the family were too. They used to perform some of their traditional dance moves and it was great to chat to them. Their Teepees were lovely too. Sadly he was quite old so I guess he may have retired by now and the younger members have gone their own way. I'm pleased to say the sun has come out here so might do some jobs in the garden. Hugs, Angela xXx

Sorry to hear you are sweltering!

Your herbs look fantastic. What dishes did you make with cilantro and basil? They look totally delicious. I bought both of those herbs at the local produce store because we are not growing them this year (we have different ones).

best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com

Your herbs look wonderful....I could just do with some of your basil to go in a salad with our tomatoes. Our lawn is being cut as I type...it's growing like crazy at the mo with all the rain we've been having.
Have a good week.
Hugs,

Your garden is looking really neat now with the grass mown. Well done you. Not a nice to do at the best of times. Herbs looking great too. What do you use your basil for? Put it on tomato salad? Dry it and use it in a pasta sauce? Make pesto?
I am short too. OK, perhaps not as short as you, but I'm 5ft1 and those trousers will emphasise my short legs. But i don't really care about that.
I commiserate with you on it being so hot. It's still very hot here and I must say, it is tiring.
But I still wish you a nice weekend, hot or not.
Hugs,
Lisca

Oh and I want to add that, yes, I do need to weed. It's a fire hazard and it needs a mechanical device as all the weeds are tall, dry and hard. I will have to pay a man to do it.

You do so well working in the garden in such high temperatures and in Spain there isn't a blade of green grass all summer. So well done you. Kate x

Your herbs are looking great considering how hot it is there!
Have a good, cooler weekend, I hope. :)

I love your herbs! And mowing grass always reminds me of my Mom. And oh, the smell is great, too.
Please... send the heat over. I was freezing bitterly yesterday... (but we made it without accident!!! Phew!)

At 107 you have us beat. It hasn't gotten nearly that hot here. Yikes!
