It's Friday, which means it's time to join Friday Smiles, hosted by Annie (at A Stitch in Time). Let's visit Annie and the other wonderful ladies who also share their smiles each Friday. But first,
let's
head to church. No, I'm not going there for a service, but for my inalienable right to cast my ballot for, in this case, Mayor and Board
of Education member.
This was the first day for early voting at all the polling stations. The election office, which is downtown, has been accepting early voters for several days. I can breathe a sigh of relief and now must wait till August 1 to learn the results of the election. BTW, if you live in Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, or Georgia, be sure to thank your poll workers. They are under even more pressure because of the lies that have been told about them by former leaders who claim they hid ballots, destroyed ballots, etc.
It seems like this is my daily harvest of tomatoes. No peppers most days because something has taken a bite out of several. I also picked three more Roma tomatoes, but they are not as ripe, so need to sit a day or two on my kitchen window sill.
Sunday I was in my back yard, trying to assemble my umbrella. Sadly, for the past two years, I didn't use it, but I left the stand outside because it is incredibly heavy.
When I tried to loosen the top bolt on the stand, it wouldn't budge. Since I didn't want to strip the threads, after fighting with it for nearly half an hour, I doused it with WD-40. Now it's soaking up the oil and I'm waiting until we are no longer under an extreme heat advisory before I tackle those threads again. The image above is similar to (and looks exactly like) my base. I found the image of this stand on the internet.
As I was working away, I noticed this black butterfly that kept flitting back and forth among my herbs. I finally went in, got my camera, and tried to take a few photos of it. Sadly, it's wings were in constant motion, even when it was hovering. It's the gray black image at the top middle of the photo.
I finally gave up and moved on to other tasks at hand. Tasks that were in the air conditioning, I might add!
And now for a few funnies:
I think that says it all this week.
Thanks for dropping by today. Enjoy your weekend. PLEASE visit Annie and don't forget to start your weekend with a smile.

Thanks for the smiles.
I hope the WD40 works its usual magic. Stay as cool as you can.
Good luck with the stuck umbrella base -- a heatwave and a job that takes patience sound like a nightmare combination!
Nice smiles... have a good weekend.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
YES to voting. And to those tomatoes.
That umbrella-stand is beautiful.
LOL to the box in the bed - happy Friday to you, Elizabeth!
Hi Elizabeth. Where would we be without the WD40, hope it works for you though to be honest the sun has gone in here now and it just keeps raining. The cat funnies are brilliant and even more so when they are real photos. We're not having much luck with the tomotoes either. Lets hope the voting goes well too. Have agood weekend. Hugs, Angela xXx
So you baking in high temperatures too; well just take care. It is dangerous to be out in it for too long.
I hope the WD40 works on the umbrella stand. It is good stuff, you may be lucky.
I have spent many hours trying to take pictures of butterflies. They are elusive little critters but so beautiful.
Well done on a daily tomato harvest. I love the smell of fresh picked tomoatoes.
The church is an interesting building. We have just had our national vote but us ex-pats are not allowed to vote in that one. We do vote in the local elections though.
The cat memes made me smile. Thankfully none of mine are as destructive as that.Kate x
...who would have thought that elections would become endangered?
Yes, thank the poll workers!!
I hope you get the umbrella stand working. You could use the shade in this heat, for sure!
The cat funnies certainly were fun. Pardon the pun--hehe!
I hope you have a really good weekend. :)
Yes, we have to vote.. millions of women fought for this right. Unfortunately I’m not allowed to vote in this country. (We had elections recently and are now left with a ‘ hanging’ government.
Thanks for the funnies. Those cats make me smile and having had a cat in the house, I know they’re all true.
Enjoy your weekend,
Hugs,
Lisca
Those umbrella stands weigh a ton. And the umbrellas aren't so easy to maneuver when you're short either. Smile. Your herbs are looking fantastic. My rosemary is outside and with all the rain it is looking pretty sad. And your tomato harvest is exciting too. I am picking cherry tomatoes too. Boy are they yummy snacks. My "big" tomatoes haven't ripened yet but my plants are taller than me. I hope you have a great Friday and start to your weekend. hugs-Erika
Hope you get your umbrella stand fixed. Have a great weekend!
Your funnies are brilliant...thanks for sharing them. I hope the WD40 works for you...it's great stuff and I love the smell of it.
Hugs,
Annie x
Harvesting is fun. Thanks for the smiles
Good luck with the umbrella stand!
I love your plant posts :) Your bee balm is looking good. Mine is fading but may have more blooms to come. Your herbs look like they're thriving in the heat.
I'd forgotten what likes dill. Butterflies are way too quick for me many times!
It is terribly hot here. I had to stop weeding. Yikes.
Jajaj looove those cute cats ! Yes, you´re right, voting is necessary. last Sunday we voted here in Spain, for a new governement, or perhaps the same repeats for 4 years more, let´s see what happens.
Your cherries looks good, and your plants are lovely. Can´t se the butterfly, yes it´s very difficult to photograph them when they are flying.
I wish you a very nice weekend, hugss Caty
