Snow Day

Today we welcome a new host at Art Journal Journey as we do on the first of every month.  This month we are lucky enough to have the very talented and beautiful Jo from Let's Art Journal.  Her theme is Snowy Winter.

In my world, it's a snow day!

Bleubeard and I have created a few detail shots so you get a closer look.

Children love snow days.  Parents, especially working parents, hate them because they often have to make arrangements when the children are too young to be left alone.  Teachers have mixed feelings.  If the school has provided enough snow days, everything is fine.  If not, the school must make up that time at the end of the year.

I started this spread using a Staz-on reinker and 91% isopropyl alcohol on 110 lb cardstock.  I then cut the focal image from a greeting card.  Next, I dry embossed a tree using a Behr paint chip sample.  I then created the sentiment on my laser printer and sewed everything to the substrate using variegated green thread.  Finally, I added the date.

Jo, Chris, Erika, Valerie, Bleubeard, and I are delighted you joined us and hope to see you this month at Art Journal Journey with your own take on Snowy Winter.

We welcome art journal pages that meet the theme requirements, altered book pages, canvases, loose, or stand alone pages including fabric and digital art.  We do not allow Facebook or Instagram entries.  We also do not allow cards, tags, index cards, ATCs, or ATCoins, unless they are part of a journal page, and as much as we don't want to, will be forced to delete your entry.  Please remember if your blog is not in English, you must either provide a translation tool or translate it for us.  Hope to see you soon at Art Journal Journey.

It suddenly hit me that there are two children, a dog, and two birds showing their faces on the above spread.  Because of that, I will be joining Nicole's Friday Face Off tomorrow.

Very cute card! In our part of Germany we never had a day off due to a snow storm. Or anything else I can remember! We have "boring weather" here in the North ;-)
Thankfully!
The downside: Crying Nieces cause they cannot ride a sleigh...

Lovely page, snow days must have beeen fun for the kids. In London we never got snow days, but we ded get fog days when we had that awful fog which killed so many people. Hugs, Valerie

What a beautiful snowy winter page! The snowy scene with the sledging takes me back to my childhood and I love how you paired it with the pretty tree and wording - perfect 😊. Thanks so much for the inspiration and for inviting me to Guest Host this year, it's always a pleasure to join you all at AJJ! Take care and Happy December! Hugs Jo x

This is lovely - and something I have never and probably will never have experienced.

This is a fun page for Jo's new challenge. I love that snow day scene. Snow days were always the best, even when I was teaching. Smile. I do love how you used the paint color card and the embossing folder to make another tree. That is a fun idea. And your background is great too. Happy new month. Hope it starts off better than mine has. Nothing major here, just lost my internet and a few other small things that are aggravating. The day should get better. hugs-Erika

So Wonderful Art page Elizabeth ! Great image and tree. I like very much how you have stitched all the pieces and the sentiment, over the lovely blue background.
I wish you and Bleubeard and Squiggle a fantastic December.
Big hugs, Caty

This is lovely ...
Yes, children do love the snow. If we should be fortunate to get snow this winter, I feel sure the grandchildren will welcome it, and it is joy to see their smiling faces.

Happy December wishes.

All the best Jan

Nice, I like the hand sewn element, it really adds to it for me.

I loved snow days too but it was a lot easier when your mom didn't have an outside job so no one had to make arrangements! It's a darling piece, Elizabeth, and really captures the season!

I am sorry you stayed up so late. I am going to post on Thursday nights. I am amazed that you would stay up late to link up to FFO. That really warms my heart you would do that. Thank you so much and have a very lovely day.

Sorry to be so late visiting but I am in Paris! Tony has treated me to an early birthday present. We never had enough snow for many snow days when I was teaching but I do remember fog days as a child. I love this page - it looks like a really fun day! Hugs, Chrisx

We don't seem to get many snow days anymore, even when it snows, but I can see the joy it brings when they do happen. This had to be a fun project for you, Bleubeard etc. Do you have snow now? We have had one small snow storm, but the ground was still warm so it didn't stick. I am looking forward to some real snow ... that is my favorite part of winter.

I love your Snow Day piece, Elizabeth! It's really beautiful, and it captures the fun of an unexpected day of freedom. I love the blue tits. They are such pretty birds. I was an elementary teacher for twenty-five years, and I appreciated snow days because I didn't have to drive to work on bad roads. I usually came home the night before with work to catch up on during the snow day. Thanks for sharing your process. It's amazing to me that you can sew an art piece. However you created it, the piece is lovely. Take care!
