Monday Murals: Wave

It's Sunday, which means it's time once again to join Sami at Sami's Colourful World and her Monday Murals.  Even though it's still Sunday in my world, please be aware that Sami's mural link goes live at 11:01 a.m. my time today.

Today I am on my computer where there is no auto correct.  That will teach me to use/borrow a cell phone.   And Bleubeard is hopeful I will remember how to spell his name!

I was drawn to this mural by the man who was walking along the restaurant.

Then he decided to sit under the shade of the tree.  It was incredibly hot, so I decided to move on and return a bit later.

By the time I returned, he had left and I was able to get a clear shot of the mural.  Of course, I couldn't understand why there was a stop sign and a fire hydrant so close to the building.  The stop sign was for whatever was behind the walls, which made no sense to me.

That is, until I did an internet search for restaurants in the 600 Block of East 2nd, which turned up nothing.  When I added the word "WAVE," here is what I learned:
WAVE is a concert venue and community space in Downtown Wichita. The perfect hybrid of a major event space and your favorite neighborhood bar, WAVE welcomes eclectic crowds of 500-3,500 people for concerts and events in our indoor-outdoor space. Surrender to the backyard vibes with live music, lounge areas and a fine selection of craft beers. Whether you’re kicking back under a sunny sky or a full moon, WAVE’s atmosphere is unforgettable.

All I can really make out are the words Eat + Drink.

Let's return to the walled area with the fire hydrant.

It's obvious this venue makes safety its highest priority.  The things I learn about my city while searching for murals.

I really LOVE the metal framework of the fence surrounding the patio.

I'm not sure you can tell, but there is another "WAVE" behind the tree's shadow.  BTW, WAVE is located at 650 East 2nd in Wichita, Kansas (USA).  Per their web site, food is only available during events at the moment.

As I drove away, I noticed

what I thought was another mural down the next side street.

However, upon closer inspection, I realized the stripes are woven through the chain link fence.

If you enjoy murals from around the world, please don't forget to visit Monday Murals at Sami's Colourful World.  Thanks for stopping by this weekend. Bleubeard, not Blueberry, and I are delighted you could join us.

BTW, I will NOT be joining Monday Murals next week because I will be welcoming our new host at Art Journal Journey.

How cool is that! Learning through murals! Wonderful!
And that fence is a beaut, too.
But, even before COVID 500-3.500 people... not my thing. Not even because I´m small, I just can´t stand noise and (too many) people.
Nice mural, though. And for people who like that a great place.

I think the word in the first line of the mural is Geseaco? I couldn't find much about it except a leasing company? Maybe a sponsor? I like the metal fencing better than the mural. I also like when something is woven through a chain-link fence. Makes it look nicer.

Nice mural find!

Chain link fence murals are kind of their own thing. Beyond the woven-in strips, there are also more elaborate ways to fancy-up fences. High schools buy cup-like decorations in school colors that groups of kids can push through the holes in the school fence to spell out the name of their team or make designs. Subset of street art?

"Backyard vibe" sounds right down my alley. I like the idea of making a mural by weaving pieces through a chain link fence :)

Thank you for your research - and for going back to get a closer series of photos. You were right - your comment had gone to spam on my blog. I have corrected the error and will answer it shortly.

Hi Elizabeth!
What a delightful idea, sharing murals from your area with us all! I'm afraid my little town wouldn't have much to choose from, but we do have a couple...so maybe that's an idea for a future blog post. Hope you are doing well and surviving the heat! thanks for a fun post, enjoyed the scenes.

The metal cut outs around the area where the wave sign is are nice pieces of art. That building must be large if it can hold 3500 people. I can't say the eat and drink sign is a very pretty mural, but it does have some interest, especially how the word drink is split so the bottom half has what looks like design. Hope you had a great weekend and it's gotten cooler. We've been in the heat too. Hopefully the storms tomorrow will cool us down a bit. hugs-Erika

Hi, Elizabeth (and Bleubeard); I thought the rusted fence with the word WAVE was fantastic. I am a big fan of murals and Sacramento has had a beautifications program for years called "Wide Open Walls" (WOW) that has led local artists to paint truly lovely murals all around the city. When we get back (we are still in Galicia) I'll post some pictures. There is also a second project that paints scenes on utility boxes all around town (all four sides and the top, like a five-dimensional canvas). They look really wonderful.

Thanks for sharing this unique place.

The graphics on the mural make more sense to me when you see the ironwork. It's very striking and clever.

The laser cut metal fence is wonderful. That must be a huge space in there.
