Today I'm sharing this journal entry with Elle, from Empire of the Cat, our host this month at Art Journal Journey with her theme, which is Language.
I used a very good translator, neither of which appears at the top of my left sidebar, to make these as exact as possible. I recognize German and Spanish, but I didn't keep track of the others. I'm sure someone, possibly Sirkkis, will be able to tell what other languages are represented.
However, something didn't feel right. That's when I realized I hadn't actually added the heart of the home.
For this page, I began by creating a background of watercolors and water soluble crayons on 110 lb cardstock. I was going for a mottled look and using both products fit the bill.
I computer generated the words Home is where my heart is in several languages. After printing the words on copier/printer paper, I used a water soluble crayon to add color to the house. I colored the roof using blue watercolor. To hold the two pieces together and delineate them, I cut a length of the beautiful fabric washi tape I received from Linda on my birthday. I also added the hearts on the roof because I didn't leave room for them on the house. The chimney was cut from a magazine.
The tree on the left was a gift from my stash. It was on photo paper and fussy cut. On the right, I used one of my pressed leaves and one of my pressed flowers from around my home. Since the bottom of the house looked bare, I found this cyclist in a magazine and added it to the page.
Thanks for stopping to check out my mixed media journal page. I appreciate you taking time to visit. Please also join Bleubeard and me at Art Journal Journey.

Home is a concept which crosses the language barrier. Like beauty. Thank you for sharing this charming (and heart warming) page.
Home is where my heart is my friend, love being home. xx
This is so nicely expressed your journal page with the slogan. Have you portrayed wonderfully.
I wish you a beautiful weekend, hug Elke
Beautiful page. Great idea with the languages, I know them all! Thanks for visiting my blog today, I thought you had forgotten me this week! Have a great day, Valerie
This is so true.
I´m tempted to join... maybe T-Day in two weeks (maybe - I´m but a beginner).
The hearts sure do the job!!!
Truly home is where my heart is. I love staying home...and playing all day! Your page is so cleverly designed, Elizabeth. I love how you created your trees. Since I love riding my bicycle, I think it’s perfect that you added a cycler to complete your page design. Some of us might not be able to read all the languages, but with the hearts on the house, the message is quite clear.
Very good idea for Elle's challenge my dear friend. I like the man on his bike. It is an interesting and unexpected addition. And I only recognize German and Spanish too. One of them I think some kind of Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Icelandic, Swedish or Danish)-the one that starts with Hem. Growing up listening to family members speaking Swedish I can tell it's one of those languages, but not which one. Very nice page! Have a great Saturday. Hugs-Erika
I like this piece a lot. Home is such a wonderful subject and I love the words and how you came about them. The bicycle is a wonderful touch and the colors perfect!
Beautiful blog
This is so nice and so true. Home is where you make it, where your heart is. Have a great Saturday.
So cute. Love the watermelon 🍉 ❤️
Such a cute page and I love the same phrase in different languages.
What a sweet page!! :)
what a great idea! sorry I've been remiss in commenting, have been reading I promise!
Oh how exciting! One is Italian? one is maybe Polish, and another is one of the Scandinavian languages? I love the idea of your page, home is where the heart is in any language. I'm feeling better and catching up with my commenting. Thanks for joining us for the Language theme at Art Journal Journey this month Elle xx
A lovely page Elizabeth - such a clever idea! I love your house and the lovely trees.
I like this cheerful homey scene and its sentiment. Lovely!
This is a lovely page with the neat background and the leaf plus that bright tree. It reminds me of my flowering cherry tree in my yard.
So many ways to look at this, Elizabeth - very thought-provoking! I think our home does speak to us and vice versa - it speaks to our heart. So sweet and a very cool page with lots of texture and color. Love the idea of doing the same words in many languages. Lovely. Hugz
Wonderful variations on the theme. I like your color combos.
Have a happy weekend ahead xx
What a lovely idea to use your own picture of a house/home and then print the words in several languages.
Love the colours you have used.
Hugs, Neet xxx
ps I love that little cyclist x
