T Stands For ?

Today I'm at my dining room table asking what each of these items have in common.  Can you guess?

Does this give you an idea?  This is a clever gadget Cloudia (and Pixie) shared with us at Christmastime last year.  It was a novel idea and I knew I wanted to follow up on it, but I got caught up in other things until today.

Now can you guess?

This is my answer to Cloudia's adorable jar opener.  It was a birthday gift from my friend Sally many years ago and it is so useful, there's hardly a day goes by I don't use it.

I remember Lisca saying how practically every can she buys in Spain now has a pop top. That's not exactly the case here in the states, although I am seeing more and more uses for this function.

This is the real reason I was so happy with this amazing tool when I got it nearly 10 years ago.  This is the can opener portion of the tool.  It opens cans safely, with no sharp edges.  These can lids can be (and have been) used in my art.

To be honest, I have never used this function.  In fact, I didn't even realize what it was for until I started doing a bit of research.  Apparently, it releases the suction under the lid and makes it easy for anyone to open these lids.   This is much like what Cloudia's tool accomplished, but in a different way.

The metal part acts as a bottle opener.  Some people call a bottle opener a "church key."  I've never used it because I seldom buy bottled drinks that require this.
The back side of the metal bottle opener has a gripper that fits over plastic bottle caps and easily opens these.

Apparently, if you turn the tab opener backward (which I showed above), it opens drink cans.  I don't purchase that many soft drinks, so that isn't something I would use all that often.

There are more functions, like the metal part that sit to the side of the can opener which apparently can be used to open chip packages.  However, I didn't have any chips, so I can't show how it works.

Now that you know the functions, allow me to create a bit of art for T this week.

I'd like you to meet high flying Llyle.  And isn't he the cutest little creature you've ever seen?  Come on, you know he put a smile on your face.

He is part Llama

and part metal.  Heavy metal, that is.

Llyle is so cute, he qualifies for Try it on Tuesday's latest theme which is Oh so cute.  Since much of him is metal, Llyle also qualifies for Valerie's theme at Art Journal Journey which is Heavy Metal.  I hope you will visit both these challenge blogs and share your own art inspired by their themes.

For this page, I began by spritzing several colors of my handmade shimmering mists on the watercolor paper.  I was gifted with a 2020 calendar of Llamas, so chose one for this spread.  I fussy cut Llyle's head and placed it under one of the can lids I colored using a blue Sharpie.  I added a star from my stash and legs made of gold and metal pen nibs.  I used E-6000 to attach the lid and pen nibs.  I colored the sentiment using dark blue watercolor.

Now that I've shown you mine, please share your drink related post this week.   It can be gifts you received, photos, a place you visited, movies, postcards, mail art, junk mail, catalogs, books, sketches, mixed media, drawings, paintings, tags, scrapbooking, or other art that is digital, hybrid, or traditional, as long as it in some way relates back to a drink, any drink.  Regardless, please share below and Bleubeard and I, along with the rest of the T gang will be by to visit.   Please link only your T post and not your blog in general.  Bleubeard would like to remind you that old photos are acceptable because they may be taken any time, not just on Tuesday and certainly not just this year.

I love your artwork. So cleaner to color tin lid with a sharpie. I didn’t realize that could be done. Thanks for sharing your art and your tool that has so many uses, I will try to do a post and link up later. I will, I will! Happy T day!

your all purpose lifter and opener looks very useful. We had one or two of those gripper things that come in bright colors. They are impressive looking but they never really worked on the hardest stuck jar lids. For that we use a wrench or a leather strap. I have some trouble with the cans that have a pull tab to take off the whole top, and asyou say, they are becoming more common.

I am so glad you shared this tool-as I am in need of one. My vintage one finally gave out it was going on 50 years for sure. I have since bought two new ones and they are both horrible, I was going to search for another one-again so perfect timing for me thank you.
I love your newest art page too-hugs

What a handy little gadget. Well done you for getting one of those. Thanks for showing us how it works. (Now I'm slightly envious)
And then you make fantastic art with the discarded part of the can. Great!
The llama is cute and its spindly legs (AKA fountain pen nibs) are so special.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

now that is a great useful all in one tool! I have several types of openers I have to use for various cans and bottles.
And oh yes, Llyle is truly adorable and you showed him off beautifully with your "heavy metal" components. Happy T day!

That's sort of like a leathermans tool for the kitchen. Very cool.
Lovely art using one of those lids.
Happy T day!

This is a fun post. I have one of those green jar openers, only mine is blue. Yet I have never seen a can opener, bottle opener and tab popper like you have. That is really a cool tool. Thanks for sharing something different this post. I enjoyed it. Your llama is amazing and works perfect with your tool post. I love the heavy metal parts too for Valerie's challenge. And the can opened top with the nice safe edges. Love it. Have a wonderful T day! Hugs-Erika

I do love LLyle the llama too.

OMG - this is the coolest thing, and I love it! Isn't it so cool to find things from years ago that we can put to good use for something unexpected? Popping in to say hello and to check on you. I've been suffering with some severe arm pain, so I sneak in typing when I can. I sure hope you're doing much better these days, and I'm sending lots of hugs, RO

Love the background and flying Lyle. Cute!
Great gadget to open bottles. I find it more difficult as I get older to open jars. That's what my hubby is good for.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate

I love your funny art piece. That llama knows how to strut and look back like a super model. Love the colour of that rich blue too. I have seen that green multi-purpose tool but not yours. I have a real tough time opening lids because of my weak wrists u TIL my friend told me to take a spoon and prop the spoon part under the lid. There is always one “corner” that will give and it works! I do this every time now unless my hubby is around and wants to play he-man and open it the tough guy way.

Yes, he is cute!
I have a few different contraptions that do all of those things...just not all in one handy item. They are really helpful the older I get, for sure! ;)

That's a great gadget, I have something similar to get my jars and containers opened, it's a great help. Love the llama art, great idea, thanks for linking to AJJ and TIOT, much appreciated! Happy T Day, stay safe, hugs, Valerie

That´s a cool tool!!
The one you showed first we had, too - it didn´t work at all. Now we have a can opener and one for lids, that works super great.
I once had to ring the neighbor-guys, a sweet couple. At first I tried with one, but, nada, it really needed two men to open that glass of olives. Now I have a small yellow tool for that - the cute couple moved away, so I´m happy about the tool.

Llyle is the sweetest!!! And such a clever idea, too! We have two in our little zoo and the Nieces were in love in an instant :-)

Hi Elizabeth, I really should buy one of those gadgets as I have problems opening jars, I especially hate opened the ring pulls, I’m always scared of cutting myself, although easier than a can opener.
Lovely artwork, very cute, I like how you’ve used pen nibs for his feet.
Happy T Day, Jan x

That's definitely a clever gadget - and look how it frees up all those different lids for crafting with! I love Llyle the llama and his marvellous medallion of a body (such a beautiful blue).

Oh, and no need at all to apologise for being late visiting over at mine... I've been missing in action for weeks. Just finding it hard to get my act together somehow. I know I'm not the only one struggling to get going, and there's nothing in particular wrong (except still not being able to unpack my boxes, which leaves me feeling a bit stuck), so I'm just waiting for a burst of springtime energy soon, hopefully!
Hugs,

Such fun! The multi-purpose tool is fabulous and I'm loving your fun llama page too 😁. the blue colour is gorgeous and it was a great way to recycle the can lid too. Happy T Day wishes! Hugs, Jo x

I've never seen such a multi-use can open, very handy Elizabeth. I have a metal jar opener for when I can't open glass jars and I sometimes use it to open my paint jars when the lids get stuck :)

Very cleaver with the art. You think of everything. Now for the gadget. I told Mr. M. just the other day that I need something like this. I will go to Amazon to look for one. Have a great day today.

What a cool tool! I have a tool I use to release the pressure in things like pickle jars so they'll open, but something that'd help open screw on bottle tops would be nice. My can opener is just a regular can opener.

Happy T Tuesday!
