The Power of Travel

Today I'm joining Erika, who many of you know as BioArtGal, our host this month at Art Journal Journey.  Her theme is Favorite Things.  I'm also joining the lovely ladies at Try it on Tuesday.  Their latest theme is an Uplifting or Positive Quote.

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I love to travel.

One of the most uplifting quotes on travel I can think of is provided by Mark Twain.
Travel is fatal to prejudice,
bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.
Maybe we can stop by

some of the northern European countries.

We can soak up the culture,

the color,

and the architecture.

For this page, which I created in my watercolor journal, I started by randomly laying down two colors of metallic paint.  When dry, I found four images from two different travel journals from northern Europe.  I cut them to size using my deckle scissors.  I then computer generated and printed the quote, which I also cut using deckle scissors.  Finally, I outlined each image and the quote with black dye ink and adhered them to the page using a glue stick.

Bleubeard and I are delighted you dropped by today, and we would love to see you at Art Journal Journey with your own take on Favorite Things and at Try it on Tuesday's with your take on an Uplifting or Positive Quote.

Very cool idea with the deckle scissors!
Beautiful page, especially in these times... The quote is sadly unknown by too many people.

Prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness sure do need some antidotes these days. And travel, as usually practiced and as Mark Twain experienced it, is impossible. While images of far-away places are beautiful, like your pictures, the mind-opening part of travel is really locked down these days. Maybe we should read some of Mark Twain's travel books!

That is a super quote. Perfect for TIOT. Thanks for joining us. And I do like these photos. I am ready to go someplace different for sure. I think it will still be awhile, but maybe by summer or fall we can at least feel safer going out and about. But then we don't have it as bad as some places with lockdown, even though I think our numbers are just as bad. Thanks for taking us on these photographic journeys Elizabeth. Much appreciated! Hugs-Erika

It's harder when virtual travel is all we've got, but I think even virtual travel -when immersive- can do almost as much.

Great colors!

I've always liked that quote and have heard Rick Steves use it often in his show and specials. With good reason. Especially when you get to really see and talk to the "natives" and not just experience it from the back of a tour bus.
