Today we celebrate Veterans Day, a United States federal holiday that honors all military veterans who have served in the U.S. military. It is observed annually on November 11. The Day coincides with Remembrance Day and Armistice Day. It marks the anniversary of the end of World War I between the Allies and Germany.
This holiday originally started as a day to respect the heroism of those who died in our country's service. It was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of
the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, President Eisenhower signed a bill stating the holiday was
changed to "Veterans Day" in order to account for all veterans in all
wars. We honor it as the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, because the Armistice was signed that day and time in 1918.We in the states are not the only ones remembering this day. Other countries that observe this date, which to the rest of the world is primarily known as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, include Belgium, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, and several others.
I sincerely hope you will honor a Veteran today. And please remember, there is NO apostrophe in Veterans. It's all about the vets, not the possessive.
This is also Day 11 of AEDM, and I honored our veterans, both alive and deceased.

We observed Remembrance Day here in Australia and, like you, I posted about it. I am very grateful to all those serving in the armed services.
Good post for today! My mother remembered hearing the news of the end of World War I when she was a child, so the day meant a lot to her.

A lovely tribute, my grandfather served in the 1st World War, in Gallipoli and Egypt.
I feel kinda ashamed again being German, living in a country that on this date starts carnival (in some places, at least not Braunschweig, here it´s in February).

You always remember to honor our Vets and remember 911 ... so very many of the young don't know what either of these are and it greatly disturbs me ... Thanks for always remembering...
What a beautiful image this is Elizabeth. Most of us in the UK stop and remember at 11.00 with two minutes silence. A lot, but not all traffic pulls over to the side of the road, especially if near a war memorial. Hugs, Chrisx
