T Stands For From the Archives

If you are seeing this comment, it means my power supply or cable has not been fixed or replaced.  I have internet, or at least I suspect I have, but I have no way to turn on my computer.  Thanks to my foodie friend Sally (who you will see below), I used her computer to post this and visit a few people yesterday while I was there.  Once I'm back online, this comment will go away.

I'm heading to the archives to find places my foodie friend Sally and I have been together.  For one reason or other, I have never shown these outings.  However, like many of you who are struggling to find T Tuesday posts of interest, I decided to clean out my archives.

Back before it was unsafe to go to restaurants, Sally and I each received a flyer with really good bargain coupons for this new restaurant called Huddle House.

Since it was in the neighborhood, we watched as the building went up within about two months.  It took awhile longer before we noticed they were open for business.

Then came the coupons in the mail.

The omelets looked so good, I wanted one.

With coupons in hand, we ordered our chosen meals.  As usual, we both got water, mine with lemon.

I ordered a cheese omelet with toast and hash browns.  The omelet I got wasn't as fluffy as it appeared in the menu.  And the cheese was a piece of what looked like American processed cheese food, which only has to be 51% real cheese.

Sally got scrambled eggs (the only kind she'll eat), bacon, toast, grits, and a short stack of pancakes.

The restaurant wasn't the least bit busy,

so I took the opportunity to take a few photos of the interior.

I actually took all these photos while waiting for our meal.

Why haven't I showed this before, you ask.  To be honest, I was too frustrated and mad to do so until now.  I only ate about half my meal and got a take-out container for the rest.  When I was ready to leave, I left the ticket, money, and a $3.00 tip (far more than I needed to) on top of my take-out container and headed to the restroom which you might have noticed was in the back of the building.  When I got back, my check, money for the meal, tip, AND take-out container were gone.  I called the waiter over, who said he thought I had left it.  I asked him to retrieve it for me and he said he had thrown it away in the garbage can and couldn't get it.  I was so mad I vowed to never go back.

Karma can be a good thing.  Sally told me she had to go for medication recently at the pharmacy across the street from Huddle House and she noticed the Huddle House is NO MORE.  No sign, nothing in the restaurant at all.  The building is completely empty.  Serves them right.  Now you know why I never showed this outing before.   At least now I feel vindicated.

Now it's your turn. It can be gifts you received, photos, a place you visited, movies, postcards, mail art, junk mail, catalogs, books, sketches, mixed media, drawings, paintings, tags, scrapbooking, or other art that is digital, hybrid, or traditional, as long as it in some way relates back to a drink, any drink. Regardless, please share below and Bleubeard and I, along with the rest of the T gang will be by to visit. Please link only your T post and not your blog in general. Bleubeard would like to remind you that old photos are acceptable because they may be taken any time, not just on Tuesday and not just this year.

Sorry you were so disappointed with that restaurant, I can imagine how cross you were. That's not exactly how to be customer friendly! One of these weeks you will shock us all when you have had internet and electricity all week without problems, but I hope it happens sooner or later! Have a good week, happy T Day Valerie

In 1996 we had a bad experience with a restaurant and were treated even worse than I think you were. Indeed we never went back. We couldn;t imagine why it was so successful. We did enjoy telling the story of the event to various people.

And it finally went out of business this year during the pandemic shut down (I think). I’m glad your gratification didn’t take that long.

be well... mae at maefood.blogspot.com

Boy, can I relate to that story, Elizabeth! We went to a restaurant we'd been to many times, but got a new (very nervous) waitress. The food was okay - not up to par; but the poor girl was so nervous she couldn't understand my Spanish, which is pretty good.

I got the impression that all she saw was my blond hair and fair skin; so she thought I was speaking English. Long story short, I asked for my leftovers "para llevar" (to carry away). She threw them out. I went to the receptionist and complained. They made me a new meal "para llevar." I was annoyed enough to wait for it. As in your case, the restaurant was in decline and didn't last much longer.

I wonder if I'll ever be interested in restaurants again.

I've also had tech with my blog. You have my sympathy.

But I wish you a Happy T-day anyway! Hugs, Eileen

Yes that could be karma indeed. It's so frustrating when you go out and pay ell for the experience and its complete crap.
Happy T day!

Hope all is well with you...

Too bad about the doggie bag.
Well, you never have to go there again. ;)

What a disappointment and a shame. Mostly because it was a new place and the interior looked very clean. Such a bad experience especially with it ending the way it did. Really they should have done something. Oh well. You had something to share with T day- and now it's all over;) Happy T day, and here's to much better experiences here on!

I like trying new places but hate when the meals are not very good. You would think especially when restaurants first open they would serve great mals to get people back.Actually you would think they would serve great meals all the time to stay in business. I am still glad you shared this visit though. If I ever see a huddle house I will skip it. Sorry your meal got thrown out too. It's bad enough to forget it but even worse to be thrown out. Hope your computer gets working soon. Hugs-Erika

I would be very unhappy as well if I came back and my doggy bag was gone. So sorry you had a bad experience.

See how scary my life is getting?! "Huddle House" after I watched the first Footy game on Sunday?!
Help.
Cheese omelet, you are killing me, YUM! Oh, guess what I´ll make before seeing the eye-specialist (where I likely wait 2 hours. Kindle full to the brim!
Or I take THE BOOK.)
Ohhh, so much huddling!
And bah, such bad "service"! And Karma, yes. "serves" them right ideed!
Huh, scary, did you mention postcards before? Cause I did show one for the first time...
I´m scared.... This is spooky.

That cheese omelet looks good and I can see why you didn't showcase this restaurant before! Wishing you a very happy T Day 😁. Hugs, Jo x

I'm sorry to hear you are having power problems. Thank you Sally for relay-ing your blog post.
Another disappointing meal/restaurant. I wonder if it is the coupon. In England, if you have a coupon, you have to show it when ordering. I wonder why. Do they then add inferior ingredients (processed cheese)? You showed a plaque on the wall "There is nothing biscuits and gravy can't fix"! That doesn't bode well. Their food is so bad that they smother it with gravy and hide it behind the biscuit.....
Oh well, as you say, they have had their comeuppance. People will vote with their feet and stay away if they are not happy.
I hope you soon get your power/cable back. In the meantime please thank Sally from me for helping out.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

But it makes a great story to tell and you were vindicated as they went out of business likely due to lack of service like this.

Grrrr. about not getting your doggie bag (Kitty bag?) to take home. Too bad they went out of business. It looked like a nice clean place with lots of choices. I love breakfast out and Sally's breakfast is similar to what I get when we visit the Cracker Barrel. I love grits

DVArtist said...

Oh yeah I would have been upset as well. That omelet looked terrible. I really like grits, wonder if they were made properly. Have a great day and brush this one off.

Sorry your still dealing with internet issues ~ We have so many restaurants in our area, they have to have good customer service to stay afloat. Enjoy the rest of your week!

yummmmy I love diners. I grew up going to the Toddle House in Tampa, sitting at the counter with my Dad who always got a thin steak. I loved, still love any potatoes made in a diner.
I fought with the people messing up the new blogger again this morning trying to post my offering... finally got it done but not without some hair pulling! Happy week, LeeAnna

We had a similar experience with a restaurant some time ago, with the long-time waitress being rude, making fun of our orders, getting each one of our orders wrong... I think she thought since we weren't "regulars" ("Have you ever been here before?" she said with a sneer) it didn't matter how she treated us. Or maybe it was just her way. We took inordinate pleasure in their closing.

I miss in-person dining, but we never went out to eat all that often anyway... Someday I imagine I'll feel like trying it again. Maybe in a yeear or two *sigh*

Good luck on that "not your blog in general" instruction lol Something tells me that'll never happen for bloggers who don't get it already ;)

Happy T Tuesday -or whatever day you see this :)

What a horrible experience! I'm glad that Karma came into play! The lovely inn where we had our Wedding Lunch was a fabulous place and superb staff - another company took over and tried to go Upmarket, except that when we turned up without knowing with family in tow expecting the same kind of service we we were shooed to the back a d rushed through our meal before the 'real' customers came, we were made to feel most unwelcome but,Karma....the place closed down, although sad to say our memories were dashed and when we drive past now it is derelict and has been for years! I do hope you get your computer sorted soon, hugs,Chrisx

I can relate to a horrible restaurant-can't stay in business that way for sure. Hope you get your internet back on soon-I don't know who can put up with such poor unreliable service. Happy T Kathy
