Let's head to the local swimming pool. After all, we've been to the beach, the shore, and now the swimming pool with its high and low diving boards.
In case you weren't aware, this spread is for Erika's (aka Bio Art Gal) theme at Art Journal Journey. Of course, her theme is When It's Hot.
In case you need to translate:
This swim wear was popular at the swimming pool.
I noted in an earlier post that two piece suits like these were popular even before WWII. To help tell the time period this photo was taken, the two piece suit usually covered the navel and left only a bit of midriff showing. A couple of the tops in this photo were padded, too, which suggests the late 1950s to early 1960s from information I could find.
For this page, I started with a rejected sheet of my handmade paper that I damaged when I removed it from the mold. I printed and sewed the focal image I found on the internet to the paper. Next I sewed the ends of two strips of colorful ribbon. Finally, I added the sentiment which I sewed on top of the ribbon.
But that's not all. I deconstructed an old image and turned it into a seaside entry
for Valerie's theme at Tag Tuesday.
This is a large tag.
Overall, (not including the tab) the tag itself is 11 by 5.5 inches (27,94 X 13,97 centimeters).
There are four layers
sewn together
using variegated threads
and decorated with real shells.
The first layer was the focal image with the sentiment required per Valerie's request. The second layer was sandpaper, the third layer black cardstock, the fourth layer cardstock I colored with coffee stains. The tab was sewn together then held using another shell.
Thanks beyond belief for visiting today. Bleubeard and I are happy you stopped by. We hope you will also join us at Art Journal Journey and Tag Tuesday.

thanks for enjoying the latest Kew trip. there were people in the glasshouses with masks on, but I didn't get them in my photos. they are large open spaces so I guess Kew decided it wasn't necessary to request it and it isn't mandatory here to wear them in enclosed spaces (not necessarily a good thing I agree) and the Hive is open all round so I don't think that is a risk- as i was on my own when I was there I didn't bother with my mask. I didn't go into the steamy palm house where I would have worn one.
Wow, I don't believe it - you've made a tag for Tag Tuesday, well done! And it's gorgeous. Love the sewing especially! Thanks a lot, much appreciated. The girls at the swimming pool all look good, too, although I won't be going to the pool here this summer even it is just down the road! Have a great day, Valerie
A JOY to see. 15C here. Brrrr....
Now, I really feel tomorrow I´ll share my red Bikini-lady, just like that, no art on my side but she sees your work and keeps asking to join!!!!!
(You still forgot to send some temps over, huh? Please do, Ingo is on holiday also this week!).
Stunning and love the sewing,, I am getting closer to getting my machine out again.xx
Why is it that style of clothing always look so appealing and makes everyone look quite attractive? Perfect for the pool or any other swim area. And perfect for my challenge also. Your tag is amazing too. And even has a swimsuit theme. It’s fun seeing these old suits. Thanks for sharing and the support at AJJ. Happy Monday. Hugs Erika
Pool and beach themes today, but the weather isn't cooperating. Your tag is beautiful with all the little seashells. Stay cool
Cool creative work.
What a fun reminder of days when socializing at the pool or beach was possible. Wonderful memories :)
Summer memories! Who doesn't love that!?
I wonder if they actually went swimming - they look very glamorous for sure! I love your tag, great colours and of course...sewing! Hugs, Chrisx
this is a nice piece Elizabeth....the times they have a changed haven't they !! I hope you, bleu and squiggles are all happy and chillax as we say heer in trout towne and I hope the eye isn't giving you more trouble :) ♥♥
Fabulous pages for Erika's theme. Those bathing two piece costumes would probably make two sets of costumes these days, but they look so glamorous, I think they would have their make up on as well.
Its a great tag as well.
Stay safe.
Yvonne xx
I agree, those are 1950s swimsuits on three lovely 1950s models. Clever use for some handmade paper you thought was flawed. Great stitch work; great page!
What a fabulous tag! It's really stunning. The actual shells are the perfect finiishing touch. Hugs, Eileen
