Second Thursday tutorial is off and Rain's Thursday Art Date is on
Today I had intended to walk you through how I make handmade paper. However, as I was starting a new batch of pulp, my blender began smoking. I let it cool down, then tried again at the lowest speed possible, but it still smoked. Now I must get another blender or figure out why this one is smoking. Until then, my handmade paper making project is on hold.
Instead, I'll be joining Erika, who many of you know as Bio Art Gal and is also this month's host at Art Journal Journey. Her theme is When It's Hot. And since Rain's Thursday Art Date this week is Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes, I put this together. After all, this is definitely a fairy tale in my books.
By now, I suspect you can guess I created this in my Scraps Altered Book.
Everything
including the circle of playing card,
the found words,
the focal images,
and of course the message,
hand written on a piece of leftover paste paper were included in the mix.
For this page, I started by laying down more pale green latex house paint I got at my local Household Hazardous Waste Swap and Shop. When dry, I knew I wanted to use those HOT LIPS that would be the focus of the spread. I then went searching for other items that would either compliment or coordinate with the colors in the lip image I outlined in purple ink. Somehow, I felt the man who looked like he stepped out of a fairy tale was the perfect addition, even though he didn't exactly fit the color scheme. The lips were from a gift card, the words were in my found words box, the man, the Queen circle (left over from a swap), and the green and yellow square were also in my scraps box. I needed a way to include the sentiment, so cut a piece of handmade (by me) paste paper and wrote it using my Sharpie ink pen.
Thanks so very much for joining Bleubeard and me today, and we hope to also see you at both Art Journal Journey and Rain's Thursday Art Date. A really unusual TAD entry for me today and Bleubeard slept through most of it.

Well, I think you should now write the story about that man and if he found his hot lips! What a fun page! Thanks for the nice comments on my blog, I'm having a stay at home rest day today. Hope your eye is getting better, too. Valerie
This one made me grin, Elizabeth.
I once used coloured lipstick - and a wee bit of eye shadow, "rouge" even, colored my fingernails and... felt like a clown.
But I was ready for my date with my then-boy-friend.
My car refused to start. I never put on make-up again! (I do use Kajal and mascara).
Now... do I have cold lips, like a fish? ;-)
Hot lips, wowzer what a fab post.xx
What a great fairy tale page the swarm of all women!
Greetings Elke
I love this page ! Those hot lips are really eye catching. Good centerpiece. And I wouldn’t think to punch a circle from a card. That looks really cool. I’m not glad your blender was smoking but I am glad you posted this page as it is great inspiration. It is a great fairytale topic too. How is your eye? Got your comment on my blog and thanks for the kick to get me moving. Smile. Hope you have a nice Thursday. Hugs Erika
And thanks for joining in too. I much appreciate your support
I have lots of lips cut out but I don't think I have any as 'hot' as yours. They are perfect for the message you are conveying, as is the sexy looking devil at the bottom. A very well thought out page Elizabeth.
Hugs, Neet xx
I look forward to seeing your handmade paper when you find another blender. It’s one of my favorite crafts, but has gotten more tiring for me over the years. Ok, so. the Queen circle above the figure must mean its Adam Lambert. I thought it was him as soon as I opened the page! Maybe it’s just me, I’ve been obsessed with Queen and their music lately, always was a very late bloomer. Lol.
I was looking for your fairy tale story about this lovely piece!
Entertaining piece of art work. It's annoying when household equipment doesn't work. First your internet...

Sorry your blender died. Fun page. Is the man the hero or the villain? 😺 Stay cool!
What a shame about the blender :( I love that pucker!
Sorry about the blender. Love the hot piece. Looking forward to instructions on papermaking.
Take best care.
No need for a fairy godmother with those hot lips
Happy Thursday
Much👸love
Sorry about your blender …
I must say those lips really catch the eye.
All the best Jan
Hilarious page Elizabeth! Sorry about your blender - I blew ours up the other week - the motor just had enough!!! T was pleased to get an updated model cheaper then our original! Hope your eye is doing OK! Hugs, Chrisx
A smoking blender sounds dangerous!
Haven't been looking for hot lips for decades--LOL! ;)
Oh no, sorry to hear about your pulping hold-up... but better to stop than set fire to the blender! Look forward to the handmade paper tutorial some time in the future.
For now, I just love your hilarious "fairy tale" quest of looking for hot lips. That chap certainly looks like he would fire things up!

Hot Lips, now thats a couple of words to think about and what better place than in the middle of a fairy story that could have all kinds of endings. Its a fantastic journal page foe Erika's AJJ theme.
Stay safe.

This made me smile! I love it! xx
Well, I can understand why Blue Beard slept through your display, as hot lips are not in their repertoire of love making techniques. A good head bump is hard to illustrate, I am thinking. So Hot Lips it is and your complimentary man is very enticing if, like most women, you like a dangerous man. This was
Quite a trip back in time as, at my age, hot lips is not likely, but it is fun to think about it, Ha! Well done and I look forward to learning how to make my own paper ... you are so much fun!

Bad news on the blender. I hope you can find another online or easily during lockdown. But you always have something fun to share and I'm never disappointed with what I see!
sorry about the blender, I hope you can fix it. I have never made any paper of my own, but it would certainly be interesting trying to do it.
Take care and stay safe.
Your pages are always so clever, Elizabeth. This one makes me smile. It has been many years since I was searching for hot lips - lol.
I hope you can get the blender fixed. I know how handy you are. Maybe you'll DIY. If you do, please share. I watched the traveling sewing machine repairman take me smoking sewing machine apart and bathe the whole inside with oil. It worked like a charm!
Hugs, Eileen
I love your creativity Elizabeth!!! Hot Lips!!! Very neat...and you're right, that man does look like something out of a fairy tale...I think he could be an evil king who puts a spell on a young princess...lovely! :)
This is so much fun! I agree, I think you should write a story to go along with it. 😉
