At the shore and more

Erika, who many of you know as Bio Art Gal is this month's host at Art Journal Journey.  Her theme is When It's Hot

I think it will be fun to head to the shore and cool off there.

These lovely lasses are doing just that

at the shore.

In case you can't read it:
Two piece suits like these were popular before WWII, but they
usually covered the navel and left only a bit of midriff showing.

You can see these two piece suits are probably from the 1930s or early 40s.

Don't you just love this background?  It's actually the top layer of a napkin gifted me by none other than our host at Art Journal Journey, my friend Erika.  I used the last of the black and white ribbon and tried to center it under the focal image I printed on my laser printer, as I did the sentiment.  It's been a long time since I've not used variegated thread, so seeing nothing but black had the effect I was going for.

But WAIT.  I have more.
Try it on Tuesday's latest theme is book pages. We are asked to use book pages in our artwork, and this is my first and hopefully not my last entry using this theme.

Both the little girl and the letter from Freud,

along with images of a newborn and adult (not exactly anatomically correct)

were all pulled from book pages, two of which are from the book in which I'm currently working.  The Freud letter came from a Mensa magazine.

All images were glued over a rejected sheet of handmade paper to which I swiped black dye ink.  I thought the page needed a bit more color than the two purple flowers captured in the paper pulp, so I added this postage stamp I had been saving to create a postage person.  I decided I wasn't going to find a way to marry an image to the postage stamp, so used it to brighten this page, instead.

Bleubeard and I are really thrilled you joined us today, and we also hope to see you at both Art Journal Journey and Try it on Tuesday

Hi E. Wonderful journal pages, love those swimsuits - so much nicer than those from today! Great book page page, too, and very interesting with the Freud letter. I have an old almanac from Vienna and you can look up Freud's telephone number and address in it! Have a un day! Valerie

If only I could sew!!!
I have a lovely, lovely lady in a red bikini, say... 1950´s with a ukulele (from the flow magazine). A blonde, like Marilyn Monroe a bit.
And a Hawaiian dancer (solar) in front.
They just whispered they love your work!
And... ahhh, since days (weeks?) for the first time I see a yellow thing up there, guess it´s called the sun! :-)

I love both these journal pages. The swimsuits reminded me of a photo of my mum wearing a similar one, [must look for it] she didn't go in the water, but enjoyed the sun. Its a wonderful page for this months AJJ theme.
Thank you for linking the fabulous page using book papers to the Try it on Tuesdays theme. The background is awesome and so interesting that you added the Freud letter and the images.
Have a good weekend.

Fantastic art today Elizabeth. Starting the with beach ladies. I really like these suits. They are modest but allow movement in the water. (Compared to the Victorian ones the other day that is). And all your elements work together so well. The napkin does make a super background for the black and white photo. Thanks for making another page to join the challenge. And your book page is really cool. Image getting a letter from Freud. When I think of Freud I’d think of my hometown (Worcester MA) as is only visit to the Us was to there to get an honorary degree at Clark U. Ok that probably doesn’t mean much to you but it always come to mind when I hear of Freud. Love this page also and I am glad you were able to join us at Try It On Tuesday. Happy weekend. Now I need to catch up on yesterday’s page hugs Erika

I remember those swimsuits, and in spite of being two piece and probably scandalous, they still look like one piece. Nice layout! Thanks for your plant help!

Today would be a perfect beach day as it’s hot and humid. Doubt you’d see those cute, modest suits on the beach today. Oh, and the bathing beauties would have to practice social distancing. Blankets/chairs must be 12 feet apart. Masks must be worn on the beach. You don’t need to wear a mask in the water. Dressing rooms are closed. I think I’ll stay home. I like the pop of color from the stamp on the book pages.

Wow I just love both of these pages. The first one is just so fun with the vintage suits and that amazing background. Of course you know I always admire your stitching. I also love the second one - great composition on this page. The baby / adult pictures gave me a chuckle - the scale!

Hi Elizabeth, slightly late with my commenting due to a couple of hectic family weeks. I love these pages, love the image of the bathing beauties, they look so happy Interesting imagery on your hand made paper background and it's a great way of using up the postage stamp to add some colour.
Thanks for sharing with us at Try it on Tuesday.
