It's Friday and time once again to join Annie (at A Stitch in Time) and the ladies at Friday Smiles. Today I an returning to the Museum of World Treasures for the final time. But first, a couple of funnies I found when cleaning my office last year.
A lady goes into a pet store one day. “I’m really lonely,” she says to the clerk. “I need a pet to keep me company.”
“Well,” replies the clerk. “How about this nice parrot? He’ll talk to you.”
“Hey, that’s great.” She likes the idea and she buys the parrot and takes him home.
Next day the lady comes back to the pet store. “You know, that parrot isn’t talking to me yet,” she says.
“Hmmm,
let’s see,” says the clerk. “I know! You buy this little ladder for his
cage. He’ll climb the ladder…and then he’ll talk.”
“OK.” So off she goes with a newly purchased ladder.
Next day the same lady comes back to the pet store. “Hey, that parrot still hasn’t said a word,” she says to the pet store clerk.
He
thinks a minute. “How about this little mirror?” he says. “You hang it
at the top of the ladder. The parrot will climb the ladder, look in the
mirror and then he’ll talk to you.”
“OK,” she says, and buys the little mirror, and goes home.
But
the next day that same lady is back in the shop. “Well, I’m getting a
bit discouraged,” she says. “That parrot STILL won’t talk to me.”
The
clerk scratches his head. “Let me think….AHA! Try this bell. You hang
it over the mirror. That parrot will climb the ladder, look in the
mirror, ring the bell, and then he will surely talk to you!”
“Well, all right, I’ll give it a try,” says the lady. And she buys the bell and takes it home.
The next day the same lady comes back to the pet shop, and she is mightily distressed. “What’s wrong?” asks the clerk.
“My parrot…well, he died,” was the quiet reply.
“Oh no! I’m so sorry for your loss!” exclaimed the clerk. “But I have to ask you, did the parrot ever say anything to you?”
“Oh yes, he said one thing, right before he died,” she replied.
“Well, what did he say?” asked the clerk.
The lady replies: “He said, ‘DOESN’T THAT STORE CARRY ANY FOOD?'”
A
magician was working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. He has a
different audience each week, so he allowed himself to perform the same
act over and over again. There was only one problem: The captain’s
parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the magician
did every trick.
Once
he understood, he started shouting in the middle of every show, “Look,
that’s not the same hat! Now he’s hiding the flowers under the table!
Hey, why are all the cards the Ace of Spades?”
The magician was furious but couldn’t do anything about it. After all, it was the captain’s parrot.
One
day the unthinkable happened: The ship had an accident and sank! The
magician found himself on a piece of wood in the middle of the ocean
with the parrot, of course!
They glared at each other, but did not utter a single word for days.
After a week the parrot finally broke the silence and said, “OK, I give up. Where did you hide the boat?”
A man bought a horse from a farmer.
“This is an unusual horse, the farmer said. “He’s very religious. You say ‘Hallelujah’ to make him go and “Amen” to him stop”.
The man thanked the farmer, and got on the horse. “Hallelujah,” he said and rode off.
After
he had been riding a while, the man decided he wanted to go faster.
“Hallelujah!” he said and the horse sped up into a trot. Then the man
said “Hallelujah” again, and the horse broke into a gallop. One more
“Hallelujah,” and the horse was running like the wind.
Suddenly,
the man realized they were approaching a cliff, and he could not
remember how to stop the horse. So he prayed, “Dear God, please help me
remember how to stop this horse, and I will be your servant forever.
Amen.”
The
horse stopped right on the edge of the cliff. A clod of dirt was pushed
over the side and fell over a hundred feet to the ground below.
The man, realizing how close he came to death, sat up high in the saddle, waved his hat over his head, and yelled, “Hallelujah!”
I think that's enough for today.
Unfortunately, you won't be able to read much. I must have been getting tired. I'm sure YOU are!
I photo bombed this photo, but it was already so distorted, I didn't see the need to blur my face.
I was able to learn the answer to the question about Medals of Honor by pressing a button on the side of the display.
I have no idea if you can read this, but it might be of interest to some.
I'm sure several of you will recognize General Douglas MacArthur after reading CJ's blog.
Monroe put on 10 shows in the four days she was in Korea. She was actually on her honeymoon with Joe DiMaggio who she later joined in Japan. It was in Japan she visited hospitals to visit the wounded.
I stood a long time in front of this photo. I was overwhelmed by all the spent shells in that photo.
Even though it was still difficult to read the text, I was glad I took pictures of most of these images.
Photos I snagged from the Museum's web site:
If only my photos had been that crisp. I wonder if they removed the plexiglass in order to get these shots.
What a wonderful way to end this visit. Too bad the paint was peeling from this wall.
Let's see what others are smiling about this Friday. Please don't forget to start your weekend off right by visiting Annie for a few Friday Smiles. We would love to have you join us, too.

I must admit again that I do not like the military museum, so I'm happy it's the last one! The Hallelujah and amen joke is good. Have a fun Friday, Valerie
Your funnies are brilliant Elizabeth....thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Annie x
How interesting! I never really understood what the Korean war was all about as I was too young when it happened and we didn't learn it in history lessons as it was too recent. I would have liked to read all the notes but I appreciate you were tired after all those galleries.
Thank you for sharing.
The funnies had me chuckling. Especially the first one.
have a lovely weekend,
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
I don't know why I wrote Happy T-Day. OK that is another Friday Smile for you!
Enjoyable funnies Elizabeth. And thank you for sharing your photos of the Military Galleries. It's important that we remember these Wars. According to pewresearch.org, we still had 24,189 troops in South Korea as of 2016.
My word you do find some funny stories to tell us! The Hallelujah-Amen one really made me laugh. In the midst of sadness life goes on, and we need to laugh too don't we? Kate x
The religious horse joke will have me chuckling all day. I don't think I ever learned anything about the Korean war in school.
I did enjoy those funnies Elizabeth! Just what I needed. Thanks for sharing them.
Alison xx
that last joke was hilarious!
Thank you for the photos from the museum.
hope your weekend is wonderful.
Despite this yucky cold, the Friday Funnies definitely made my day! Hope you're doing well on the fabulous Friday! Hugs RO
Love
Hi Elizabeth. Sorry I'm late today but we've been on the road for most of it. Love your funnies as usual, they always make me smile though as a lover of Parrots I felt sorry for the one that starved to death. A very educational post too, brilliant. Have a lovely weekend, Angela xXx
Thanks for your visit to my place and for taking us to this wonderful museum. I confess, I'll miss this tour -- it looks like a terrific place. And your funnies were delightful! Have a wonderful weekend, Elizabeth.
It's strange when you think about it that the Korean War never ended. There they are North Korea and South Korea with their demilitarized zone and wildly different ways of life and politics. Thanks for sharing these history lessons with us. We know what they say about people who don't learn about history...
Such fabulous funnies 😁. I enjoyed visiting the museum with you too, there's so many interesting things to see and find out about. Thanks for the smiles and wishing you a happy Friday and Weekend! Hugs, Jo x
Love the jokes the best! :)
Thank you for the smiles, it was a good way to start the weekend.
The second floor of the museum is as interesting as the first floor, so much information. You must have spent hours looking at and reading all the exhibits.

OK first I want to comment on the comment you left on my blog about the Rapid City air museum. i want you to know I suggested it my husband (as well as the on in Fargo, ND) and he shocked me by saying he didn't want to go. What? He takes me to all kinds of air museums and air shows and he doesn't want to go to this? Well it is on the list for next time we get back to the Black Hills, because like most places you visit (and even live) you miss so many things. And I want to say I am really impressed with this museum. I like seeing the Korean Conflict items as I know so little about this time in history. My Dad and his siblings/in-laws were WWII and my cousins (or the ones who were older than me) were Vietnam. My had was older when he had kids so I have cousins well into their 70's . (And I have an aunt who turns 96 next week on that side of the family also). Thanks again for sharing these photos an taking us on a journey through the museum. Hugs-Erika
Many thanks for all the photographs from the museum.
I enjoyed your funnies too :)
All the best Jan
The only things I know about the Korean war come from films so this was an interesting visit!
BTW - those funnies were very funny!! Hugs, Chrisx
