Funky Flowers

Many of you are probably aware that Alison/Craftytrog is our host this month at Art Journal Journey.  Her theme is Geometric Shapes and she has asked us to make any art we like as long as it includes something geometric.

Today I have created a pot of Funky Flowers, which is also the name of my journal page.

I purposely cut these circles funky, although I considered cutting them in more precise circles.

Each flower had either three or five colored circles.

Each flower is attached with long rectangular slivers for stems.

The flowers were stuck inside a flower pot that was shaped like an isosceles polygon with a rectangular "edge."

The vintage sheet music pot was wrapped with triangles that simulated mosaic tiles for decoration.

The flower pot sits on a rectangular bed of mulberry paper "grass."

The substrate was 110 lb cardstock, which, when colored, buckled.  The sky was made using water soluble crayons and the bottom was created using my new wall stencil.  I used walnut ink on a dabber to color the wall, which also contains rectangles.  The flowers were colored using bingo dabbers, then cut to size.  Two contained bits of gessoed and colored words from a novel.

I think this is my favorite entry this month, and I hope you like it.  Thanks for visiting. I'm so grateful for your support and kind remarks.  I hope to see you at Art Journal Journey, too.  Bleubeard and I would love to have you join us.

BTW, please click to give Kibble to cats and dogs today, (found on my right sidebar), especially if you don't every time you visit.  Today  they are giving 10 times the normal amount of kibble to both cats and dogs of furloughed Federal employees who are struggling to feed their animals as much as they are their human family members.

I love your pot of funky flowers - they brighten up my morning here! I love that you used Mia's stencil and it seems you are just happy with it! A really wonderful entry for Art Journal Journey dear Elizabeth! Sorry to hear that you had problems with your electricity! Hope all is well again for you! Thank you for visiting me even though you were so stressed! You are a wonderful blogger! What a fantastic idea with this kibble button, I already played along and will do it every day, please mention it more times that we all see it !
Hubby and me donate for a local dog shelter each month since last August. We bring them 4 sacks of food for 60 Euro each month. We managed already that some of our friends donate also.
Pets need our help.

Big hugs Susi

Your funky flowers made me smile. Such a delightful composition. I hope we get to see flowers soon as I've had enough of the cold and snow.

Oh I love your funky flowers Elizabeth! You are really rocking this geometry challenge! And thanks for posting about the free kibble - for whatever reason I have not seen that link before. I got on and clicked so there is no restriction on country.

I love this interpretation of the geometric shapes theme. So many shapes, but they come together so well that it's not the shapes you see until you start looking. What a bright and cheerful piece :)

I also love this page. Those bright flowers are perfect for cold and not so colorful January! Your wall came out great too. I answered the questions to help these family members get their kibble. We had on our news today a vet who is donating her services for free as she had a few patients who weren't binging their pets as they didn't have the money to pay with no paychecks. I think the government is breaking the law because isn't it the law that if you work you need to be paid-or at least I know human slavery is illegal. Maybe this isn't quite slavery but it doesn't say much for the president who doesn't seem to get or care about these people out of work. (Sorry for the political rant). Enjoyed the art today! Hugs-Erika

Hello Elizabeth. Gosh your funky flowers are so much fun and would brighten anyone's day. I love their musical flowerpot too with the "mosaic" triangles.
Super brick wall, sky and grass too - mulberry paper grass, that's clever texture.
