Second Thursday Tutorial: Inclusion Confusion

I had planned to create a very different tutorial today, but I have out-of-town company who I want to spend time with.  So art, and even my blog has taken a back seat to real life.

I wanted to show a new-to-me background.  I'm sure others have come up with this same technique. but I haven't seen it on the web before.  These photos are scanned.

For this technique you will need water soluble crayons, oil pastels, or something similar.  You will also need watercolor paper or heavy card stock (110 lb or heavier).  Scribble lines on your card stock/watercolor paper in complimentary colors.  Don't stray too far in any direction on the color wheel, or you will end up with mud.

Using a water brush or a paint brush dipped in water, color the scribbles beginning with the lightest color and ending with the darkest.

I was going for purple, but all I had were red and blue.  I misjudged and used far too much blue the first time around.  For your second round, repeat the scribbling process.  If you are a bit braver than I, you can add other colors to the middle of the page.

Repeat the water brush process, then, once everything is dry, add any colors you believe will add to the overall composition of the piece.

To finish this art, I'm once again joining Chris whose blog is Pear Shaped Crafting with her Art for art's sake theme at Art Journal Journey.

Inclusion Confusion
I painted card stock using purple acrylic paint, then cut the paper into non-concentric circles.

Once this goes live I will add it to my tutorials page.

I am extremely grateful and delighted you took time out of your day to visit.  These tutorials are all about havng fun, learning, and asking "what if." I also hope to see you at Art Journal Journey.

I love playing with watercolour crayons, they are probably my fav medium with Caran d'Ache being my favoured brand. It's a super piece of art Elizabeth.
Enjoy your day and have fun with your visitors.

I really admire how you are continually trying new things. I don't use the crayons but I love the intense colors I'm seeing here. You do them so well.

I have been in Vancouver and the Rockies but am back now. Isn’t it fun when you apply the water and see how the colours come to life. Love the bright blue circles. Hope you are having fun with your guests
