B stands for
I'm once again joining Rike at Rike's Art this month's host at Art Journal Journey with her theme Animals A to Z.
I think we will all agree that this majestic animal is far prettier than the Vampire Bat I shared yesterday.
Even the dictionary entry agrees the buffalo
is also known as the American bison.
Before you get all excited, I didn't draw this beauty. Remember, I'm the one who collages, but can't draw or sketch. I found it in a book of paintings I picked up last year at the Art Museum book sale.
For this entry in my Challenges altered book, my inspiration was the dictionary definition. Then I went looking for a suitable image. I mixed three water soluble crayons to get the background I needed, since the image/painting wasn't large enough to fit the page. In addition to the definition, I added computer generated text.
Today is also one of the biggest days of the year. It's the Super Bowl. Before that however,
the Hallmark Channel is having their fifth annual Kitten Bowl. It begins at 12 pm Eastern Time.
Next up is Puppy Bowl XIV which airs at 3 pm Eastern Time on the Animal Planet.
Finally, at 6:30 pm Eastern Time, we head to Minnesota this time hosted by NBC, for Super Bowl XXII. I'll be chowing down on snacks and goodies, and watching these three bowls today.
Please remember, if you have room in your home and heart for a new puppy or kitten, these two animal bowls were designed to encourage pet adoptions. There are so many unloved and abandoned kittens and puppies out there, animal adoption is key to the success of these two bowls. The key to the success of the Super Bowl is for the Eagles to win!
Thank you for joining me today and thank you for your visit. I hope to see you at Art Journal Journey, too, but only after all the games.
EDIT: Per Susi and Yvonne's requests, I am adding this Buffalo to Try it on Tuesday's Fire and Ice theme, too.

Wonderful bison you found Elizabeth - I can tell this is going to be a great month of art for you. And yes I agree that this guy is definitely prefereable to the vampire bat, although I didn’t think he was as ugly as everyone else seemed to!
The bison is a majestic animal, shame we don't have them here, and he made a great page. I like the idea of the kitten and puppy bowls more than the real thing. Have fun if you are watching! Have a great week, hugs, Valerie
What a great idea to use a dictionary definition to find an animal for my theme! This bison-buffulo looks really majestic and you made a wonderful background for him!
I like that these two animal bowls were designed to encourage pet adoptions.
Wish you fun if you are watching all the games, so have a happy weekend!
Thank you for your wonderful entry to AJJ!

P.S. I answered your comment on my blog (cat).
My eldest son had a 'thing' for Bisons so I am familiar with them even though we only see them in zoos here. He used to carry a little plastic model of one around with him like a comfort blanket! I love this page of course! Enjoy your day!Chrisx
Patriots for Number 6. =^,.^=
I enjoyed your Bison - Buffalo page. Makes me think of tomato and tomahto. I just checked and I think we get the Hallmark channel so I'll be able to tune into the Kitty Bowl. Thanks for the heads up. Go Pats! =^,.^=
Wow a super Bison page - this painting is fabulous and hey Ms.Elizabeth why don't you PLEASE add it to the FIRE& ICE collection over at Try It On Tuesday as well---fits perfectly with those colors!
And we would like to see you there again!
A fabulous "B" for animal from A to Z
Shame on Buffalo Bill who killed so many of them just for the railroad construction.
Great bowls for pets and have fun watching the Super Bowl!
Happy Sunday
Susi
Your Bison is awesome the painting is fantastic, but, I have to say the way you have used the collage on your page is FABULOUS.
As Susi asks please add it to TioT's, the colours are just right for our theme.
Enjoy the games on TV today. I like the idea of the shows where they hope to make folk aware that there are pets needing new forever homes.
Its been a Rugby weekend for us here as its the start of the Six nations games. Two matches yesterday and one this afternoon.

Yes - awesome looking Bison Elizabeth, fabulous page - what a great image you found. He may be better looking than the vampire bat but he's still got that 'don't mess with me' look in his eyes :)
Have fun watching the games!

I love bison! I'm glad you found and shared this painting! They are truly magnificent creatures.
Thank you for joining us over at TRY IT ON TUESDAY Ms.Elizabeth!
I watched every minute of the Kitten Bowl and part of the repeat. I wanted the orange team (Bengals, I think) to win. Alas... I tried to get Lizzie into it -- sometimes she is very into TV but it wasn't working for her today. They mastered the cat puns, didn't they! I'll give the Superbowl a pass though. It's Victoria night!
Wonderful page! The bison or buffalo looks fabulous racing towards me, it looks like it's going to jump right out of the screen ...lol š. The background you created is perfect and those water soluble crayons blended beautifully! Wishing you a happy weekend, Go Pats! Thank you for joining in the fun at Try it on Tuesday! J š
I Loved your buffalo page very much-you know me I love the buffalo.
I watched the kitten bowl-so cute, I missed the puppy bowl though as I was getting our dinner ready to eat at 2pm
Enjoy the game!
Kathy
Loving your buffalo page. They are fascinating animals and such a big part of history. I missed the kitty bowl but chowed down and watched the puppy bowl. make me want another puppy, even though two is probably enough. And I have only 1 complaint about your post, which you probably guess. Go pats. We will know soon enough.:) Go Pats! hugs-Erika
What a fabulous beast your bison is Elizabeth! I love your page!
We don't have vampire bats here, but we do have bison. They are majestic animals, and your art does them justice. I'm not a big football fan, and my hubby is not a fan of the Patriots, but we did see those last exciting minutes. Hooray!
You come up with such clever page ideas, Elizabeth. I'd forgotten that a bison is just one type of buffalo.
