The tastes of summer
This is my final entry as host this month at Art Journal Journey. Bleubeard and I would like to thank Susi for her wonderful, supportive, and caring administration of Art Journal Journey. It's been an honor to host and I hope I didn't disappoint.
I've been influenced by the various posts I read that included the tastes of summer, so I had to create my final entry with that in mind.
Watermelon, a summertime staple is definitely one of the tastes I appreciate in summer.
Popsicles, waffle cones filled with ice cream and fruit, and island drinks served in a coconut shell all make me think of summer, too.
What would summertime love be without a few hearts? I used them throughout the month in several of my spreads. Another waffle cone filled with four or five dips of colorful ice cream (and a cherry on top) also remind me of the tastes of summer.
Of course, it never hurts to share a few summertime drink recipes, either.
Add watermelon and heart embellishments, and these drinks take on a life of their own.
I really got in collage and mixed media mode on this page.
I actually felt bad covering up all the paint I used to create the background.
I also used a lot of pop dots and 3-D embellishments on this page.
Just about everything was dimensional,
as you can see from this view

and this view.
I began by laying down various acrylic paints onto a piece of watercolor paper. It was the first time this month I grabbed watercolor paper for my background. I backed both the watermelon and the splashing drinks with heavy card stock. Since the drink recipe cards were already the thickness of postcards, I didn't back them. They were also the only items, other than the mat under the watermelon and the computer generated text that didn't get pop dots or have pop dots already attached.
Thanks for joining me for a month of Art Journal Journey. Bleubeard and I are extremely grateful for your comments, your wonderful and inspirational art you shared with us, and your visits. Thanks again Susi for your support and guidance throughout this month, too.
Finally, here's a look back at everything I created for Summertime Love at Art Journal Journey. Bleubeard and I greatly appreciate all your comments, even though we/I might not say it often enough.

You had a great month, and made oodles of wonderful pages, using lot of techniques, and bringing lots of summery ideas into play. Well done for all you did, with a little help from Bleubeard, of course! Hugs, Valerie
A wonderful month of amazing pages Elizabeth. It has been a lot of fun and your hosting was so inspirational.
Happy New Week
Love Chrissie xx
Well done for some fabulous work, and love the montage of it all together.
Beautiful montage Elizabeth.
Those summer fruits, ice-cream and drinks makes me wish Summer would hurry up! We've had so much rain, which I know is needed, but I'm just so tired of non-stop rain and gray days!
For sure you did not dissapoint dear Elizabeth - on the contrary you amazed with all your fantastic ideas and your continued outstanding engagement pushed the theme forward. I loved every single entry of you an Bleubeard! This last page is amazing as well - love the composition and all the detailed work - you showed us summer at its best this month and I love your collage of all the pages and the binder you created!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL!
I am sorry for not having made more pages for the challenge theme - you know I had some unexpected life things happened this July♥♥♥
Happy start of the new week dear Elizabeth!
Humidity is on the rise here so your tastes of Summer is so refreshing to look at. I love the "quilt" you created with your Summer pages.
It was a joyful theme, Elizabeth, and your many artworks were joyful too. This is a superb finale.
Bleubeard will be glad to have a little rest now, maybe?
Love your tastes of summer. Summer was a great theme -- I noticed a lot of nice work on different blogs and yours too! (My favorite taste of summer is sweet black cherries. I've had so many I may turn into one...)
You have done an amazing job Elizabeth, not only hosting but keeping up with all the entries AND creating so many of your own fabulous summer pages!! This delight is the icing on the cake and I love your mosaic of entries too. Thank you so much for a super theme and for hosting!
You chose a fabulous theme and as always you are the perfect host visiting and chatting to everyone, thanks so much! I've had such fun creating pieces for the "Summertime Love" challenge and they remind me of happy summers - perfect 😀. Wow, you created so many inspirational pages too, I love seeing all together. Wishing you, Bleubeard and Squiggles a great day! J 😊
Nope, you didn't disappoint and with today's post you have me wanting something tall cool and fruity. :) Its warming up again here and feels like deep summer, which it obviously is, so when things are as they are suppose to be life is ok. It was a really fun month and a great theme. Hugs-Erika
I don't like watermelon, but I'm on board with all the rest. I can't tell you how long it's been since I had a popsicle, but you have me wanting one now. All those special tastes of summer. What a treat!
lovely page again Elizabeth. Very summery! I commend you for making a page every day and an index card too for the whole month. Jeepers! I enjoyed seeing your mosaic. Some of the highlights for me were the drive in page, the surfs up page (for the gorgeous background and your hand made surf boards!), the beach huts and the sailboat that you made yourself. I hope you've enjoyed hosting this challenge - 31 pages in 31 days is a lot!
WOW WOW WOW!! These are ALL pretty amazing and I love your different approaches to each one!! I have decided that since my life got crazy and busy, that I would start completely where I left off and try to do this thing again! I went ahead and wrote all the prompts down so I could do through them! So in another week or two, I shall start them so I can complete it! :) Thanks for sharing and I hope to catch up with your posts soon! Thanks for all your encouragement...it means a lot! HUGS
Its been a great month Elizabeth and I felt like pulling up a chair to join you with the delicious tastes of summer you have shared on this page.
The collage of all your pages looks fantastic.
You chose a great theme and I for one thoroughly enjoyed making my entries.
You and Bleubeard wonderful hosts, I will include Squiggles as I think he must be close by as well.
Yvonne xx
