T Stands For Lunch at the Art Museum

Before we begin today, I want to tell you there is enough interest in an ATC exchange we will have it on July 20, when we celebrate our 4th Anniversary.

Some of you were confused last week.  On July 18, we will have an ATC exchange.  You only need to make ONE ATC, which will go to your Pay It Forward, or PIF partner.  However, that doesn't keep you from exchanging with other T Tuesday artists, if you want to make more than one.  That's completely up to you.

Valerie laid down the gauntlet and challenged me to make an ATC.  I will be making FOUR.  I will draw four names from everyone who joins us for T that week, whether you are exchanging an ATC or not.  I will throw the number of people who participate into the Random Generator and pick four names from those who create a T Tuesday post.  Merely leaving a comment won't count.  You must join us for T, which means you must provide a link, to be eligible.

On July 20, you will place an asterisk after your name IF you wish to participate.  As several of you have seen in the past, not I nor anyone can seem to make the "Linky removal tool" work.  So for that week only, I will use Inlinkz, where, IF you want to play and forget your asterisk, you may go in and remove your own name and link, then add it a second time with the asterisk.  Please remember, it only takes ONE ATC to play and celebrate our 4th Anniversary.

And before I forget, this is the final Tuesday in June, so please be thinking about your Second on the 2nd post for July.

Now back to our regularly scheduled T post.

A couple of weeks ago on Tuesday, my foodie friend Sally and I went to the Art Museum for lunch.  It was blistering hot, and we didn't dally outside.  Instead, once inside the building, I took a couple of photos of the museum grounds and the river.

I watched as canoers traversed the river.  They were obviously braver than I, because the heat index was over 100 F (38ish C) that day.

We've never had to wait for a table before, and we were shocked when we were told it was going to be at least twenty minutes before a table was open.  The restaurant was packed.

At least it gave me time to take in a couple of abstracts.

I had just started to check to see who painted this

and this, when the host called our names.

Of course, before I went in, I had to take a photo or two of this beauty.

This is called the Confetti Chandelier and was created by Dale Chihuly.   It's one of two pieces he created for Wichita Art Museum or WAM.  Chihuly is famous for his hand blown glass art.   He is known for blurring the line between blown glass and sculpture.

The only other piece beside the chandelier in this huge room is this piano.

We were finally seated and I was so thirsty from the heat of the day, I drank most of my lemon water even before we ordered.

Sally ordered a swiss onion and mushroom burger and a salad.  Although the salad looked great, and was the only thing truly vegetarian on the menu, I've been eating a lot of it at home.  The chef messed up on my order and I had to wait for my sandwich.  While I waited, they brought me a small plate of french fries (known as chips across the pond), which came with my sandwich.

When my turkey, Brie, and pear sandwich finally arrived, it also came with more fries.  I ordered ciabatta bread, but got sourdough instead.  I wasn't about to send it back after Sally had downed nearly half her sandwich already.  BTW, my sandwich was $8.75 + tax (USD) and I took half home, along with most of the fries, which were surprisingly just as good the next day.  Sally's burger was $8.50 + tax (USD).

Now it's your turn to share your T entry this week.  The rules are extremely simple.  Your drink related post may be anything from a photo of a glass, cup, or mug, to an actual drink.  You may choose to share a sketch or a digital, hybrid, or traditional page in your scrapbook, art journal, or altered book.  Maybe you'd prefer to share a tag, or wow us with your photography.  You might choose a postcard or decorated card.  You might even draw an image on a used tea bag.  Or perhaps you prefer to review a place you visited, a movie, or book.  It makes no difference as long as it's drink related.  And don't forget that the more unique and outside the box it is, the better we like it.  Please tie it back here, and please link only to your T post, not your entire blog.  When you link, Bleubeard, the T gang, and I will be by to visit.   Bleubeard would also like to remind you that your photos may be taken any time, even months or years ago, if you choose.

Nice to see a happy Sally! Sorry you had to wait for your meal, though. Lovely art there, and that chandelier is wonderful, as a collector of glass it is most inspiring. Thanks for explaining about the ATCs, I'm sure it will all work well. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

I got a giggle out of "Now back to our regularly scheduled ... ," Elizabeth. Thanks for clearing up the anniversary ATC PIF exchange for us newbies. I look forward to celebrating with the T-gang.

"Blistering hot" made for some beautiful outdoor shots. You took those through a window?! I guess the art museum keeps their windows cleaner than I can keep ours ;-)

I'm interested to know who did the American Gothic-type paintings too.

The hanging Confetti Chandelier glass sculpture is phenomenal!

A tasty reasonably priced lunch with leftovers (even though you had to wait a bit) is just my cup of tea ;-)

Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen

The Art Museum looks such a lovely place to visit and the chandelier is spectacular! It is made up of such beautiful colours and shapes - stunning! It reminds me of artwork I have seen by a glass blower local to us, his company is called Glasform and he produces the most amazing sculptures and pieces of glass 😀. Your sandwich and chips looks yummy, now I've got the munchies and may need to raid my fridge ...lol 😀. Wishing you a Happy T Day! J 😊

Oh Wow, That is one awesome chandelier, It must have been a very high ceiling.
I love how light and airy your museums and galleries seem. .
Your lunch did look delicious even though you had to wait a while and Sally seems to be the lucky one and gets hers first.
Happy T day Elizabeth.

What a lovely chandleier! A beautiful piece of glass art. The other exhibits look interesting too.
Yum, your sandwiches look very tasty. Yours particularly. Turkey, brie and pear. Sounds like a delightful combination. I suppose you (being a vegetarian) would have had to remove the turkey before eating the sandwich.
Thank you for explaning about the ATCs and reminding me of 2nd on the 2nd.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

Oh My! That colourful chandelier looks to have so many fabulous details to drool at! I guess the room was used for talks and recitals! It's a shame about the lack of a vegetarian choice - sourdough would have been my choice of bread(it's supposed to be better for diabetics!) Those fries look like proper hand cut chips - I always think of fries being thinner! I think I would like your choice although of course I would be eating the turkey! You might be interested in a link to a video on my post today - I can imagine taking you there! Hugs, Chrisx

You and Sally do have quite the eating and general outing adventures! Love those first two abstract pieces especially. But that chandelier is amazing too! Looks like a pretty hefty lunch for the price. I like the sound of yours very much:) Happy T day!
PS- made a note so I don't forget about the swap:)

As soon as I saw that chandelier I knew I had just stood under one on our college visit to UMD. It's in the library on campus. https://lib.d.umn.edu/services
The museum looks wonderful. I really need to make a point of visiting some of our art museums in the area.
Happy T day!

Your sandwich looks delicious. I think it is good that the restaurant was so crowded because that means the food isn't bad and maybe people are visiting the museum. Did you get to see much more? Looks like it was a fun day out since Sally is smiling in one photo. Cool glass piece. I have never seen anything like it. Happy T day. Hugs-Erika

WAM! I work at WAM, the Worcester Art Museum. So fun to know we have a twin. The chandelier is gorgeous. I've seen Chihuly's work at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The MFA has the Lime Green Icicle Tower at 40 ft. tall.

Must be the month for disappointment at restaurants. Though the food your ordered has me salivating and the price quite reasonable especially for another lunch.

Happy T Day!

Lunch looked really good. :)

Love the Chihuly sculpture - there was an exhibition of his at Kew some years ago, I must look out the post and see it again, it was amazing to see his work amongst the surroundings of my beloved Kew!

Glad you were able to enjoy the remainder of your sandwich and fries the next day.

You are right about Eleanor. She was someone who truly cared about human rights. Not only was she the first US woman to serve on the UN, but I believe that was her agenda to get a human rights "document" passed. She is one of my idols in life. I keep learning about her and everything I learn amazes me still.

Don't you hate when they can't seem to get your order right... but like you said maybe they are not used to being over run with people like that... imagine the panic in the kitchen!! lol

That glass installation is just fantastic...I have never seen his work in person before but it looks breathtaking!

We've actually been cool here for several days but that is coming to an end i believe.. uuughh..more summer.. :(

I do plan on giving the ATC swap a go... ooooh boooyy... lol Happy T day! Hugs! deb

I enjoyed your museum tour. Such a variety and in a lovely setting. There was a Chihuly exhibit here years ago, and I loved the blown glass sculptures. The colors were gorgeous!

Happy T Tuesday!

love those paintings but hate waiting to get a seat in cafes

I do adore Chihuly's glass sculptures! We saw an exhibition at the Columbus Arboretum, and it was amazing how glass structures could blend into a flower bed and actually seem like they were more flowers! (Tall graceful glass pieces 'planted' into the dirt, etc.) A similar style huge hanging piece is also at the Columbus Museum of Art. So beautiful. But I wouldn't want to be the one to climb up there and dust it!!

The food you had for lunch does look really good, even though you had to wait. I would have settled for the bread that arrived too! The paintings you showed are wonderful too...did you visit the rest of the museum, or just the restaurant? hmmm...now I am wanting to go to an art museum....♥

came back to respond to your comment re my comment - the Chihuly exhibit at Kew was years before I started either blog, how time flies! so it would have also been years before I got my digital camera, and the photos will be in a box somewhere!!!

Hello from Minnesota! Wow, I can't believe what hot weather you've been having in KS. If it's this hot in June, what will it be like in July and August??? Time will tell.

Speaking of time, it has been a long, long time (over a year) since my last blog post. I do want to get back to Green Crafting eventually. But I recently came up with an idea for a new blog, and I launched it today. For my first post, I'm playing along with T is for Tuesday. It's good to be back. :)

What a fun day. I'm sure you and Sally had a grand time. The chandelier looks like it's made of balloons doesn't it?
Speaking of vegetarian fare...have you tried Wendy's Strawberry and Mango salad? Yum.

I'm just wild about Chihuly's work -- that chandelier is fabulous. And it looks like you had the most wonderful time! A beautiful museum and a perfect spot for lunch -- even if you had to wait to get in!

Such a lovely outing! Chihuly glass is amazing. I would have stood in front of the chandelier for a long time. We've seen two exhibits of his work and it is mesmerizing. Your lunch looks very good, even though you had to wait and got a different kind of bread. But the combo sounds yummy.

Chilhuly is amazing. Got to see some floating sculptures in a garden space in Chicago many moons back now but they were some of them 3 feet around lily pad like creations in many colors. Quite striking and got a peak into the glass museum on a trip to Tacoma one year.
Most amazing. xox

I always love seeing Dale Chihuly's work. I am hoping to go to Seattle at some point to see the museum there. I have seen his work in Vegas, in Europe and in Canada mostly in hotels and even a large outdoor sculpture in Venice that I just stumbled across when I was wandering.
