A little elegance, a little grunge
I was delighted when I learned that Gill from Gibby Frogett Craftations was this month's host at Art Journal Journey. I first got to know Gill last winter when she shared her steampunk inspired Christmas decorations. She is the QUEEN of steampunk, so if you are looking for steampunk inspiration, be sure to check out her blog.
But this month, her focus is on Elegance and/or Grunge.
With that in mind, I created this first entry for AJJ this month.
You can see the "woman" has a bit of elegance.
However, there is also a great deal of grunge.
It all adds up to a little street art found in downtown Los Angeles, CA. (USA).
Now for the details. I started by painting a used file folder with metallic blue, pink, and yellow acrylic paints. I spread the paints so they ran together, creating purple and a pale orange. I dug into my new washi tapes and used ones that looked like they belonged on the page. The image was from a photo I took several years ago from street art found in downtown Los Angeles. Lots of cropping on the photo and the piece was ready to share with Gill and Art Journal Journey.
I want to thank everyone who left such kind words. I have told my friend's children how much they are loved and how the blogging community came together to show that yesterday. We are all grateful, but most of all, I appreciate your sticking with me during these trying times.

Steampunk - that's a word I'd never heard of.
Your interpretation is very pretty Elizabeth.
Fantastic! I just love it.
Wow this is a great page. The street art itself is really amazing. I love coming upon a truly inspired piece of street art! But, what really impressed me with this piece is your thoughtful choices of washi tape. The colours and pattern in the top piece goes so well with the art work, while the bicycle tape perfectly echos the bicycle chained up in the foreground. Well done!
Wow to the glamour, grunge and street art, its in this fantastic journal page everywhere I looked.
Good to see you back creating.

Wow! Reminds me of a 1950s movie poster. Very cool!
I love this, Elizabeth! Steampunk is fun:)
Beautiful page, you have put elegance and grunge well and truly under one hat!
Hugs, Valerie
Oh my! You got that post title spot on didn't you! This really is wonderful in both of those ways and more! I love this Elizabeth, totally, absolutely love it! Give your friend's children an extra hug - there can't be many things worse than losing a parent with such little time to get used to them even being ill!Hugs, Chrisx

wavez two ewe bleu & squiggles, hope yur both doin soooooper grate !! ☺☺♥♥
Street art! Always fun to come across when I'm out, and I loving seeing examples of what's out there other places :)
This is terrific, Elizabeth. You've got some cool washi tapes.
The file folder now looks super-grungy, while the girl looks street-wise elegant, does that make sense?
Whether it does or not, I like this a lot.
Wow, your page is stunning! I enjoyed learning how you created it too 😊. The photo of the street art is amazing and I love the pops of orange and the lettering you used for the title too. Thinking of you and sending big hugs! Jo x
Love this piece Elizabeth. It is perfect for Gills challenge 😀 I am home recovering. Boy it is good to be in my own bed. More another day about that. Love your piece today. You really made it look graffiti 😀 Hugs erika
With everything that has happened - I really appreciate you joining in at AJJ Elizabeth and for your lovely and kind words.
I love the piece you have made using your amazing street art photo (I love street art too) and that's great washi tape.
With the weekend almost here, I hope you can have some 'you time'.. take care.. Gill xx
Wonderful page - quite creative but I do know that you are very creative. I am not sure I know what grunge is or how do to it -- will have to learn!

This looks like it was a fun piece to do and I love the explanation and layers. Been thinking of you and your friend's kids this week. Sending hope for them and healing wishes for their young hearts, and yours too.
