Oscar Shorts

I don't know how well the Oscars are known or watched in countries other than the U.S., but this year, as last, my friend Sally and I went to see the Oscar shorts.  Ironically, my ticket number was the same as the number of years the Wichita Public Library has offered these films.  Sally's number was 45, so they didn't go numerically.

Don't get me wrong.  This is NOT for the faint of heart.  This is a seven (yes 7) hour marathon of short after short after short.  The movies started at 10:00 am and there was a 35 minute lunch break about 12:30 pm.  Then the afternoon was filled with film after film after film until nearly 5:00 pm.

Sally predicted the winners, but I didn't.  The ones I chose last year didn't win, so I'm obviously not good at that sort of thing.

Beside the length of the day, the theater was extra hot and stuffy.  Lots of people were coughing and by the time I got home, I felt awful like an 18-wheeler Mack truck ran over me, then drove sandpaper down my throat.  I just hope by the time this post goes live, I will feel better and the winners of these shorts will have been announced.  But for now, I'm headed to bed, scheduling this post, and hope you will understand if you don't hear from me this weekend.  I'm simply out of it.  And yes, I wore my glasses which didn't help much because we sat close enough to the screen I didn't need them.

Again, I apologize for not visiting this weekend, but right now I'm so sick, I can barely sit long enough to write this post.  Don't worry, though.  T will still be held at 4 pm tomorrow my time.

hope you feel better soon.. that's some marathon film visit! we get lots of coverage here, though you can only watch the ceremony on some subscription channels as far as I know. I don't care, as I am in bed sleeping! sounds like they need to do a bit more checking of the winners though, thought that was really funny...

So sorry to hear that you are still not well Elizabeth and I am sending healing thoughts your way.

I don't think I could sit through 7 hours of anything so well done for doing that. I like to see the photographs in our online newspaper and all the daft outfits they wear but would never want to see the whole thing.

Take care

Love Chrissie xx

That sounds like a bit of a marathon event! Sorry to hear you are poorly, and hope you feel better very soon.

I hope you feel better asap Elizabeth. The films sound good but the whole scene otherwise sounds like such a mess. I think the heat would be enough to make you feel horrible. I didn't get to see the oscars this year as my friends in NM don't have a tv. But I can check out online when I get a chance. I figure if they are nominated. They are good to see. Feel better soon and rest. Hugs erika

So sorry to hear that this event has left you feeling so poorly - I was quite jealous until you mentioned the time and the heat! I don't watch the Oscars live as it is in the middle of our night but the Breakfast TV programmes are full of it! They showed the Warren Beatty clip so many times though! Pleased that Casey Affleck won - we loved Manchester By the Sea! Hope you feel better soon! Hugs, Chrisx

Oh wow I applaud you for making it through such a long day. That would have been just too long for me especially in those conditions. I hope you didn't come away with the flu or bad cold.
I didn't watch the oscars last night The globe awards got too political and the news was saying to gear up for another onslaught of politics. so I chose not to watch. politics does not belong in film award show in my opinion.
but your day did sound interesting-feel better

We don't get to see the Oscars but I love to see the magazines showing the lovely gowns (and awful ones) that the female stars wear. Not sure I could sit for that long a marathon but good on you for doing it gal! Sorry to hear you picked up a bug at the showing and here's hoping that you are feeling much better by now. Hope Squiggles and Bleubeard are looking after you.
Love to you all, especially my man
Hugs, Neet xx

I don't watch the Oscars. I find the show boring, way too long, and too late for those of us who have to be up early. Sorry, you're feeling not feeling well. Hope you feel better soon.

Dear Elizabeth, hope you feel better today. It's really rough sitting in a hot cinema among coughy people.
7 hours! - that's incredible and I like that it was called "Oscar Shorts" although I see why it is called that now. It looks like it was a fun programme. We once went to the three original Star Wars movies shown over one day, but I'm not sure how long that was.
Get well soon.
love

Oh I hope you are not getting something and it's just stuffy dryness. I could not last in a theatre that long, my longest ever was Lord of the Rings. Each movie was 4 hours. I never cared about Hollywood patting itself on the back. I will just watch the films I think I'll like. Usually too quirky to win any awards anyway, although I do want to see La La Land and Hidden Figures. xox

whoa- I couldn't do such a LONG movie viewing-yikes!! The only one I saw was on Sunday morning TV- Piper- and I absolutely ADORED it!!! Would love watching the others too - but in slow increments:)

I wouldn't have been able to pull that one off. I picked Piper but was wrong on everything else. And I picked that because it was the only one I saw (on Sunday Morning -- so adorable!). Well, all I can say is bravo! You have stamina!

I'm sorry you're still sick :(

When you're up to it, I'd love to hear your suggestions for which of these shorts I should look for. Sometimes I can find them online, but it's overwhelming to try to watch them all.

Feel better soon!
