Hong Kong

I'm so in love with the Asian theme at Moo-Mania and More, I simply had to get at least two more spreads in.  And because there's a definite story in these journal pages, I'm once again joining Erika (AKA BioArtGal) at Art Journal Journey.

It's time to visit Hong Kong, with its long history of British Empire dominance.
As with many Chinese cities, the old is mixed with the new, and the modern wealth is mixed with the poor traditional masses.

I hope you can read this.  Sorry.  It's the best I could do with my camera and OTT light.

This dictionary definition is sadly in need of updating.

This is a city of color and old world charm,

yet modern in so many ways.

For  the back side, I got much of my information from a 1975 geography book.

I also did a bit of stamping on the back of an index card, while I wrote the city's name on some joss paper.

Could that be the same house boat from the front side?

I wanted to make sure you could read this.  It is fascinating and tells the story behind how Hong Kong eventually won its independence.

Hong Kong has come a long way since the 1970s.

For the front, I started with heavy black card stock.  To that, I added two travel brochure images, three red dots, a dictionary definition, and some computer generated text.  I finally got my printer to talk to my old computer, and I couldn't be happier.  I would never have been able to write all that, and you wouldn't have been able to read it if I did!

For the back side, I added a partial page from a 1975 geography book, three silver dots, joss paper, a stamped index card, and an image from a travel brochure.

Thanks for joining me today at both Art Journal Journey and Moo-Mania and More.  Your visits keep me going while I wait patiently to hear about the status of my new computer.

We got another load of snow this night - deepest winter around me.
So time for art - I hope at least!

Hello Elizabeth

Wonderful and inspiring pages with so much to look at. I think the stamps you used are terrific and I have never seen those before. Hong Kong is certainly a very modern and prosperous place in modern times.

Have a great day

Love Chrissie xx

Wouldn't it be wonderful to visit there? You and I could hop a plane and go see the sights and eat lots of dim sum and cruise around the harbor? Love you page today Elizabeth. I love seeing the photos of the city and being reminded of all the exciting places there are in the world. Better than thinking of all the scary negative things. :) Thanks for joining us at AJJ. Hugs-Erika

You pages so colorful and it looks warm. I like your stamped images especially the dragon. Joss paper. Joss is Chinese for luck or fate. Perfect sentiments stamped on the paper.

Whenever I see a sampan I am reminded of the old movie with Wlliam Holden and Eva Gardiner I think. Inn of the Seventh Heaven. Nice history and page. Glorious red. xox

I loved reading this Elizabeth and I must say I love the way you have made these pages! A friend of ours went to teach in Hong Kong and we sadly lost touch when her Mum died and she no longer came to our church on her holidays! I love those lanterns! I think I may just have caught up too! Hugs, Chrisx
