The Write Stuff and First Day on Campus

Today I have two very different spreads for you.  One is current, the other vintage.

This is a fun piece I thought up when I saw these young people in a magazine ad.

I spent a lot of time creating these words in my word processing program.  Each word had a different fill pattern, but when I printed the page, the designs disappeared.

Still, not to be deterred, I added the labels from three crayons and a pencil with a now "defunct" eraser.

When the words didn't print with patterns, I tried to add my white Gelly pen, but it somehow refused to work properly on the ink, then quit working altogether.

Regardless, I'm still quite happy with the way this piece turned out.

Materials include a portion of an ad for an ink pen, three crayon labels, one pencil, and one sheet of yellow copier/printer paper with computer generated text.  I can't really claim the white pen, since I couldn't get it to work properly.

For my second spread,

we're heading off to college where a vintage image

shows these lovely ladies from (what appears to be) the 1940s sitting on a campus wall displaying their bobby sox and loafers.

It's obviously their first day on campus.

Materials I used for this spread include a piece of scrapbook paper that reminded me of argyle socks, an image from the internet, green variegated thread, computer generated text, and matching letters I outlined in black pen.

Thanks for joining Bleubeard and me today and don't forget to join us at Art Journal Journey where we're heading Back to School with our write stuff and bobby sox and loafers.

Both pages are lovely Elizabeth - the first one is so gay with those happy kids and the coloured crayons. Sorry the pattern on the writing didn't show up, things lie that happen. The second piece is fun, too - love all those girls with their socks and the argyle pattern in the background. Thanks for all the hard work you are putting in for AJJ - once again you get full marks with a star and go to the top of the class! Have a fun day, hugs, Valerie

Both is fantastic! I love both and I think it doesn't matter that no patterns are on the letters in the first piece. It often doesn't work like we want it to work... the same to me.. but with every ->>It doesn't work<< - we learn something ... that's the positive aspect of mistakes or fails.
I love that you always write about all your
little ooops .

Two pieces on one day!
You surpass yourself!
Happy beginning of the weekend Elizabeth!

Wonderful spreads today Elizabeth. You did a great job cutting out those magazine kids and all the ephemera too. The bright background was a good choice. Too bad about the letters, but these work. And I love the bobby soxers too. Those 1940 college/ high school yearbook photos are always so cool. They looked like they had so much fun back then-I know its just the style of photos. Happy Friday. For me its yahoo, another weekend. Hugs-Erika

Two pages in one day....Bravoooo!
The first one made me smile, remembering all the "new" school supplies and how I loved them.
The second page made me think of sitting in front of the TV to watch American Band Stand......in black and white....LOL!
Great pages, enjoyed seeing both of them.

I still wear bobby socks, but I've never had loafers. I'd like a pair but have oddly never found a pair that was comfortable. Comfort is my sole requirement for shoes ;) These pages bring back memories from different eras :)

Confessing right off the bat I have no clue what you were trying to do with the letters BUT they and the page look great! Fun play on words too.
The argyle background in your second creation is perfect for your bobby sox/loafers bunch. Super pages AGAIN!
I have SO much catching up to do...we'll see how far I get working my way backwards oxo
