Friday Smiles 179: Celebrating Squiggles 2nd Birthday

I'm once again joining Annie at A Stitch in Time with Friday Smiles.

Some of you saw this index card from July 16, where Bleubeard, I, and some of Squiggles friends threw a birthday party for him.

I remember when I was a child, my grandparents would take me to one of those professional photographers that are in every town to have my annual school picture taken.   It was a yearly event and everyone got dressed up in whatever finery or gaudy or goth they could get away with to have their photos preserved forever in an annual yearbook.

Now everyone knows that Bleubeard is the face of this blog and he (and his name) shares all the art that comes from me.   Squiggles knows his place, but it doesn't mean I didn't want photos that would be saved for posterity.

Unfortunately, unlike some of my friends, whose cats (and even dogs) will sit still until the "photo shoot" is complete,

both of my boys are shy when it comes to cameras.   Although Bleubeard is quite social and likes to be the center of attention,

Squiggles shares none of that desire to be in the limelight.   He's not just shy, he's scared of other people, and has been since the day I brought him home at six weeks of age.   I've always believed someone mistreated him before he went to the Humane Society.

Getting him to sit for a decent "head shot" was nearly impossible.  Over 200 shots later, these were the best I got from two days of trying to photograph him.  And he moves faster than a bunny, too.

A shot like this would have been impossible with an old SLR.  But here is one of several I got that showed how fast he changed positions while I was trying to get a decent birthday photo.

I hope this put a smile on your face, because once I realized I was fighting a losing battle, I had to laugh at the battle of wills my very determined Squiggles displayed.

Now it's time to join Annie for another week of Friday Smiles.  And thanks, too for sharing my smiles this week where Squiggles got to be the star of Bleubeard and Elizabeth's blog!

Oh Elizabeth you really do have me chuckling here....what is it they say about not working with animals or children? I tend to use my mobile for snaps and it has a delay on it while it focuses....you can def guarantee that the moment has passed or I'm left with a blurr by the time it snaps 😄😄😄😄😄 .....and like you I keep trying. You won't be surprised just how any were taken to get the ones I've shared today hehehe. Hope Squiggles had a lovely birthday....but I'm certain every day is pretty special living with you.
Hugs,
Annie x

Hi Elizabeth... I can relate to taking photos of ones cats... three of ours will loll about for you but the lady - Arya - no way - she's flighty too and doesn't like strangers. Your boys are fabulous and you did well taking that last pic. Hope you all enjoyed the birthday and have a super week cheers Robyn

Happy Birthday to Squiggles and I hope you had a Miaow-vellous time. I love the photos despite their imperfections as they certainly make an impact and show how Meoootiful they all are. It made me smile and wish I still had furry friends but we haven't replaced our lovely pets due to all our travels to see our family.

Aaawww Squiggles, you know I love you, thanks for keeping (almost) still for a few of Elizabeth's 200 photos. (You are relaying this to Sqiggles, aren't you Elizabeth, as I assume Squiggles can't read). And you know you are in the best place so you don't have to feel frightened any more (still speaking to Squiggles, obviously, haha!).
Cuddles and strokes, Squiggles.

Happy 2nd birthday Squiggles! You are a star!
It's so difficult to get animals to pose. At best they lick the camera or just turn their head away.
Elizabeth can I have you address please. I would like to send you one of my ATCs (with tea-cup).
Have a smiley week,
Lisca

Happy birthday to Squiggles. I think he has found a better life with you and must be happy, even though he is a shy guy. I think he's very cute and he looks like a big guy, but maybe it is because of the way you took the photo. Hope he has a special day. Hugs-Erika

Belated Squiggles birthday!! Love the photos... he really is camera shy! I think that certain cats just take to one person and can't be bothered with anymore because I know Pandy has never been mistreated in her entire life but she still acts as though someone has done terrible things to her. LOL
