My eventful weekend
As I put the finishing touches on my second Thursday tutorial for tomorrow, I thought I would share my weekend. It all began Friday morning. I had planned to get an early start shopping, but my yard was so overgrown I knew I had to get to it first.
After I mowed the front yard I was almost ready to quit.
I was so happy my yard didn't look as overgrown as my neighbor's.
Before I put my mower away, I decided
to mow the entire yard.
I didn't take time to snip and clip any little trees and bushes that popped up over the winter, nor did I bother
edging or trimming. Instead, I put the mower away and took a very cold shower. Not by choice, of course.
Next I was off looking at hot water heaters.
I went to four different stores, trying to decide what the best price was. I decided on a 40 gallon tank that is shorter than most, with a 10 year warranty. That's the difference between the cost of the one on the left and the one on the right. I was willing to pay extra for the added four year limited warranty.
On my way home, I saw Tuesday Morning, where I remembered they always had good bargains and great napkins in the past.
Not sure I got any bargains, but I now have a few napkins I can send to friends, and a few words I can use in collages and mixed media work. But my favorite buy was the stamp I got. I've wanted one of these since the one I owned was no longer valid (it stopped at 2002). I can't wait to use it, even though it's got some silly sayings with it that can be stamped at the same time. All I want it for is the date, though, and it will come in handy for the ICADs, too.
Before my friend Scott and I could pick up the hot water heater (thankfully, I had not paid for it), he checked to see how easily we could get the old one out of the basement. What he found was,
do you dear readers, friends, and followers remember I said I had a flood in my basement? The flood put the pilot light out. It took Scott awhile to get the pilot light to come back on, because there was still a lot of water around the pilot light inside the hot water heater, but he saved me $500.00 by checking to make sure it was not the heater. I'm now off to take another hot shower. I keep taking them several times a day, just because I can!!!
Thanks for sharing this joyous weekend with me and thanks for your visit.

Yay for Scott! your lawn is big, but looks great now it's all neatly mowed. Am liking your goodies you bought, too. Went back to Kew on Monday before going back to work yesterday, if you have time to look.
I love to have green grasses in my gaden. It looks very natural. I too use to go to three shops to get the best price of the product.
Yes, hot water is a much appreciated luxury! Enjoy the warmth after the hard work, and stay dry! The napkins and things you bought look great, have fun with them. I have one of hem date/sayings stamps, and it is really useful. Have a great day, hugs, Valerie
Lovely photos of your garden and all that you have been doing. What a good job you got your boiler working again
crafty hugs x
Oh my Elizabeth. I didn't realize you're water heat was toasted during the floor. Take lots of hot showers and enjoy them. Once our well pump died and we had to go for several days until the hubby could get it all put together, and its the same when we lose power (which often lasts for several days), so I know what its like not to have a hot shower. Your lawn looks so green and lush though. You don't have to worry about a big old bear lumbering out of the woods like here, especially with the fence. So you commented yesterday on doggie day care. When we got our pooch she was a rescue from down south. Here in New England more dogs are wanted than are around so they bring dogs up from kill shelters down south. We got her sight unseen at a rest stop on the highway-she came up by van from Georgia. I don't think she'd ever been in a house and although always a lover, she didn't know how to act. So we started sending her to doggie daycare to help her socialize, a little trained and not have to leave her crated up all day. She has so much fun playing, and now that we also have my daughter and her dog, we send them both a few days a week to keep them from destroying the house. Plus when we get home they're tired and it makes life those evenings a little easier. Hope its a great day! Hugs-Erika
You got a lot done, and it's always satisfying to look back and see what you accomplished. Scott saved the day for sure!
Enjoy your hot showers again! We would we do without electricity or water!
You seem to have some great bargains there, I like the napkins and the word collages. I still have lots of napkins I used to collect when I was doing crafts...I should start doing them again!
I'm unambitious this morning and wasting time at work, but at least now I am more awake. I think I misread your post originally that you needed to buy a water heater, and instead you got lucky and didn't need too. I think I have it right this time? This is what happens when I try to function before my morning cup of tea on sleepy mornings. Glad it all worked out. Erika
Good for you, Elizabeth! Thank goodness for knowledgeable friends. They can often save us a LOT of money in several areas if we just ask. So glad you can enjoy a warm shower again--I HATE a COLD shower! :-)
I always encourage people to turn their grass lawns into flowery meadows. Voila! No more mowing ;)
I'm so glad your hot water heater works after all. What a wonderful discovery!
That is a big yard!! love all the treasures you got and that stamp is wonderful.. and I give thanks for a wonderful shower daily, often two in Florida... wink.. wink.. x
What a pretty yard! And what a lot of mowing! And yay Scott -- good thing you didn't buy that new water heater. We don't have Tuesday Mornings....I like that rubber stamp...
A salute to Scott and super goodies for the craft room!

And yes... the lawn always... I have to mow second times a week now - I take it as a little workout... we also had to cut 60 meters of hawthorn hedges 2 times a year.... always nice when it is done!!!
I feeel with you!

As the French like to say "it's complicated" and that would describe your weekend pretty well me thinks!
Scott is a prince with a good eye saving you all that money.
Those date stamps do really come in handy and what beautiful napkins!
Friends were talking today about our napkin collections.
Those can be addictive ;-) and such fun to use too.
Thank you for that link you left me E.
I certainly did enjoy those lovely travel photos!
A Magpie Room AND Swan's Room too = oh my!!!
Totally fabulous.
The Blue tile room also really spoke to me.
The UNESCO World Heritage sites are just so very special aren't they.
Perhaps because you were including a link in your comment WordPress hesitated to post your comment?
I was thinking more about your comment about Colin sleeping and eating on the Appalachian Trail wondering if you asked that after seeing the size of his backpack perhaps? Nowadays ultra light camping is quite popular. He carries his tent, sleeping bag, inflatable mat, cook stove, food and clothes in that pack. He has it down to a science considering every ounce and keeps hoping to trim down the weight which helps him walk further and further.

What a weekend, I would hang onto Scott, he is a treasure to have for a friend.
Your grass look so fresh and green. I like the way the sun shows the leaf patterns from the tree on your lawn.
Your new goodies look lovely, enjoy using them.

LOVE Tuesday Morning. And you're right -- their napkins are the best!
It looks as though you've been really productive! Good for you. I always hate buying things like hot water heaters that are essential but not beautiful!
That's a seriously productive weekend -- and yes, Scott rocks!
Well you certainly did get a lot of things done over the weekend . So glad that Scott was able to resurrect the water heater and save you some moo-la :)
Oh, I bet that made your day not having to buy another hot water heater!!
The yard looks good and the goodies look good, too. :)
great news that you don't need a new water heater...so glad Scott figured that out. He really is a good guy isn't he?! I love Amy Tangerine brand stuff....that is a pretty good price on the stamp, I think. I have a different brand and haven't used it much. I need to get it out again...
since I'm visiting on Friday, have a great weekend!!
What a great story. It's awesome how friends help us out!
A big hurray for Scott! It's taken me until now to get to look at your blog so I am a long way behind! Well done for doing all that mowing! I love your goodies - reminds me that I don't date my pages enough - stamp to the fore I think! So pleased that you are not shivering still! Hugs, Chrisx
