Craft Barn's latest alpha/dictionary challenge with a twist

Craft Barn's latest alpha/dictionary challenge came with a twist.  The letter was D and the twist was we had to use pink in our art.

I was a bit worried that I would not be able to find something to recycle for this challenge, but suddenly, I realized I had received an ad in my mailbox.  What could be better than to recycle junk mail?

I chose DOME as my word, because I received this image a few weeks ago, and kept it for some reason.  It was sent by one of the Presidential candidates, but all I kept was the dome and background.  I wasn't prepared to fussy cut the dome, but after I realized I had to use pink, I decided to cut the dome away from the lovely orange and yellow background it came with.

The letter D is shown in pink and outlined in a deep metallic pink.

I outlined the word dome with the same metallic pink ink.

For those who don't live in the US, and that seems to be most of the players in the Craft Barn challenges, this is the dome to the US Capitol Building.   It is actually two domes, one inside the other.

For those not familiar with my April posts, I recycle, repurpose, reuse, etc., something each day from April 1 to April 22, which I call bEARTHday, but most call Earth Day.   Today is Day 6 and I recycled junk mail to make this latest Craft Barn challenge entry.

For the first time since I've played in the Craft Barn challenges (which includes the quotes/lyrics from 2 years ago), I was unable to visit everyone.  For that I apologize, but real life and a slow computer and internet kept me from making it around to everyone.  I will attempt to visit everyone who posted last time, and everyone who posts this time.  Again, I apologize for missing even those who left comments for me.  Thanks for visiting today.  I'm truly grateful.

The dome is beautiful seen close by, and it was a great idea to recycle the junk mail you received. Love the pink background. I got some nice cardboard yesterday, so will be recycling it in the next few days. Have a fun day, hugs, Valerie

You asked how I keep my camera dry: I use a cut off piece from a plastic sandwich bag, like a tube, which fits over the camera and lens, but is open back and front. Easy to stick into your pocket and take with you at all times.
Hugs, Valerie

I love using picture from the mail and other things in my art. I like this page. Dome is a great and unusual word. I bet you''ll be the only one using it. That's a good thing. Have a wonderful Wednesday Elizabeth. Hugs-Erika

So, it is a double dome. That gives us two "D" words. It is a splendid dome and I think the pink background sets it off very well.

Great page -- and I see why you are jealous of all those dictionaries i got at the library book sale. Check out my friend Monica's blog (if you alreday haven't) -- The ArtFul Recrafter -- there is a link on my blog. She is the queen of reuse and upcycling and teaches workshops all over SF on creative reuse. I think you'd enjoy it. Meanwhile, i like your dome and the page ......

What an interesting plan to recycle in April. The 22nd may be b-earthday but the 23rd is my birthday! It's a beautiful dome and I've been lucky enough to see it inside and out IRL . I like the fact you have added a pink background and the highlighting of the initial letter.

Your April (self-imposed) task sounds wonderful, you have so many clever ideas. Your recycled junk mail has turned out really well, the dome looks great, almost lit up, against the bright pink.
That pesky Real Life often interferes with our art-making and blogging but what would do without it!
Good luck with your slow computer, hope it speeds up again.

Being from the US I thought this was really timely with everything that's going on here. I love the pink background, almost like a sunset in DC.

Love the dome and it certainly stands out from the pink background. Well done on your recycling challenge too!

Recycling your junk mail into art is a great way to use your junk mail and to turn it into something more appealing. However, that's quite the challenge to accomplish as well. I'm finding that the more business that is taken care of online, the less junk mail I receive. Being in the US, that's quite the timely piece of art to go along with our quite entertaining election year. And pink is perfect for the background.
