Journal 52, Week 42: Masks

For Week 42 at Journal 52, Chelle had a guest artist, Cecilia Sawyer from Australia, and the prompt was Masks.  According to Cecilia:
I particularly chose the Mask as it has significance in the Halloween theme and it is almost Halloween. At a deeper level the mask represents to me the social facade we often wear for others. It can be for fun or it can be a protective device. I know it will hit a chord in everyone at some level.
Actually, I guess I'm one of those people who find masks to be one of those touchy-feely subjects I try to stay away from.

Here's how I interpreted the prompt.  Many mask quotes take on a negative connotation, so I tried to stay away from them.  However, there is little that is uplifting in many of these quotes.  I'll let you read the various quotes for yourself.

I drew two masks freehand and cut them out.  One was vellum and one was copier/printer paper.  I chose the oriental vellum because I liked the pattern and I chose the copier paper for the yellow color that complimented the yellow in the background.

One final look at Masks, made using my gelli printed used file folder, vellum, and copier/printer paper.  All quotes were found on various internet sites and printed.  The decorative scissors I used (yes, I'm determined to get a bit of use out of these things) are by Fiskars and the style is "Colonial."

Thanks for looking, and thanks for your visit.  It appears that the linky at Journal 52 is not working this week, so this will be the only place you will see this week's entry.

Hope you are doing well. The weather is getting colder here now and colder for the weekend. I hope to be at T Day this week, will make my post early on Monday. Take care.

Your page is well done and most interesting. I am not a friend of masks either, and never liked seeing shows or circus performances where people were masked or dressed up to be something they weren't. Love the colours you have used, too. Have a lovely day, hugs, Valerie

A wonderful selection of quotes on your interesting thoughtful page. Not a fan of masks either, the facial expression itself, can hide so much of how you actually feel.

Great quotes. We all wear masks of one sort or another, seems to me. Would be wonderful if we didn't, but sometimes it's for safety I guess. xox
