The reason for time

I'm once again joining Art Journal Journey whose theme for August is Time, as well as Moo Mania and More whose theme this fortnight is Embellishments.

While I had the hot glue gun out (more on that later), I decided to create another Time related entry in my experimental AB.

I started by using a doily as a stencil, then painting the paper that I used to cover an old CD.

There are various reasons I never think of using hot glue in my art.  One is, my fingers get burned when the glue drips on them, or when I hold onto the piece that has glue on it.  Another is those little strands of "hair" that get left when the glue gun is pulled away from the embellishment.  A third is, there is NO TIME to adjust the embellishment before the glue turns cold and holds the piece in place, whether it's the correct place or not!  The second two reasons can be seen here, and the first, well, you'll just have to take my word for it because I can't show the salve I've placed on my fingers and wrist!

This saying was colored using oil pastels and was left over from a Time swap I was in years ago (sometime between 2004 and 2008).  It was dumped in my scrap basket when I purged things a few weeks ago.  I added two buttons, but this time I used E6000, since it gave me time to position the button holes where I wanted them.

Materials used include a mop-up paper towel for the background, a CD covered with a painted and stenciled background, various buttons including those adhered to the quote, real clock hands, a rusty metal tag from 2002, and a square embellishment left over from a previous project.

As an update, I used hot glue on the hearts I created in the post below.   The hearts glued to the burlap, but the wings refused to adhere to the polymer clay hearts, and when I tried to place them on the burlap only, they popped off.  I'm going to try Patty's choice and I plan to buy some heavy gel medium to see if that will work.  Next time, I'm going to adhere the heart to the wings before the assembly is baked.

Now let's head over to Art Journal Journey and Moo Mania and More to see what others have conjured up for these two challenges.  And thanks for your continued support of my art.  It's always appreciated.

Thank you for joining in again at Art Journal Journey and Moo Mania & More with this super experimantal AB page Elizabeth! I like to use my heat gun, but I have a low temperature glue gun for kids... so I don't burn my fingers..lol.
What about this e6000 Glue have you tried it?
I wish a happy new week to you!

Great journal page--the quote made me smile!

I've never had luck with hot glue and polymer clay. If anything, a heavy bodied pva will work. I glued some clay tiles to a terra cotta flower pot and they are still in place years later even in the sun.

I like the way you incorporate so many elements into a single complete picture. You must be able to see it in your mind as you are gathering your materials.

I don't remember ever having been burned using a glue gun, but I remember those strings.

What a shame you burnt yourself, I do hope it's easier today. I couldn't see any leftover hairs. I've had minimal use of a hot glue gun but have experienced the heat of it also, lol. Your clock page is lovely the colours are all so pretty :D

Great use of buttons and recycling as always Elizabeth. Time sure slows down on this lazy, hot summer days. Enjoy them while they last. Xox
