Journal 52, Week 5: Television

For Week 5 at Journal 52, our prompt was Television.  Most of you who have been around my blog a long time know I'm still old school when it comes to that technology.  I still only watch TV after I've taped it.  YES, taped, as in VCR.

So, today I give you my take on Television.

I'm old school!

OK, maybe not THAT old school, but at least the gal has a remote control in her hand!  And look at that tea pot just waiting for tea time.  Did people really live like that in the 60s?  I ask because I got this image from a 1967 National Geographic.

Were the decorations cutting edge, or soon forgotten?  And how does that relate to TV, since I don't watch the home improvement shows?

We were told that television was the prompt for week 5, so I showed a bit of old school.  As for genres I like?  Mysteries, mysteries, mysteries, drama, action, sci-fi, history, PBS, and did I mention mysteries?

No chick flicks, no reality TV, no comedies with those horrible laugh tracks. And no commercials, if possible.  Materials used to make this retro inspired journal page were an image from a 1967 National Geographic, image from a fashion magazine, large red doily, handmade shimmering mist, gold pen, black pen, and of course, a used file folder.

Thanks for taking time to visit and laugh at my Old School take on television.  I appreciate your comments and apologize that I've gotten another bug/virus that has settled in and refuses to leave my already weakened immune system.  Forgive me if I haven't visited, but making the required challenge art is about all I have the strength for right now.  I'll be by to catch up soon.

Hello Elizabeth! So neat to see this tv art by you. I had a tv like that and would sit in front of it too, of course I was pretty young but I remember it. My stepdad had an orange chair like that too, lots of orange in all his furniture when he met my mom. I don't watch much tv either, one night a week, one show only. Can't stand commercials either.

Love the playing cards below, perfect for Valentines Day. How nice to see some green growing in your yard, hope that spring comes soon. Would love if our temps went up more too. Just happy it's not as cold as last year though.

Happy weekend!

Great page Elizabeth and yes we had a TV like that without a remote control and only 2 channels - we were happy enough though to be able to watch things like The trooping of the colour and the FA cup

A great take on this weeks theme and yes I remember my parents having a tea pot like that although it only came out when we had visitors or it was a special occasion.

I love vintage images such as these. I have a picture of me inside the TV cabinet when My dad was replacing the tube...they put a throw rug behind me for a backdrop and I pretended I was on TV. :) Fun memory. Thanks!!

Well, the flocked wall paper and color scheme are definitely vintage 60s--not that we had any, but I have seen it in relatives' homes.

Sorry to hear you are ill again--it is all this darn weather change I tell you! Our wind chills were -20 last night!
Good thing I had no place other than home that I had to be.

A blast from the past for sure...it does surprise me that they have a remote.
Fun how you pulled it all together.
Sorry to hear you're not feeling good again...I know you're tired of that!
Mr M is also dealing with a second round of something.
Take care and rest up.

An excellent 'take' on the theme Elizabeth. I'm surprised there were remote controls in 1967, we still had a DIY black & white tv back then which closed at midnight with an annoying beeeeeeep or a screen of equally annoying static, haha. Hope your weekend is going well :o))

My 60s tv watching was nothing like that. Our tv was in a cabinet, but it was taller with a speaker below the screen and wasn't nearly so wide. It was a b/w tv for us back then, and we'd never heard of remote control. Mother favored early American decor, so our room was much warmer/cozier feeling. But we did have a tv lol

oh, the nasty flu seems to be all around... i hope you will feel better soon!
we didn´t have tv until 1966 - the Soccer Worldcup was the reason my dad bought one... and i remember we had only 3 channels to watch and they ended around midnight... now we have hundreds of channels and all we become is dizzy!

Tv arrived here in late 60's.Remote control in the 70's. I don't like watching tv much. Love your vintage piece, my friend.

Black and white TV, no remote and certainly no snazzy cabinet - just the box on a table. My parents used to restrict our viewing too - although in the 60's don't remember any day time stuff! I do love your page though-love the colours! Hope you feel better soon! Chrisx

like this but it is not the 60s I came to in USA. I remember all the furniture covered in plastic!

How fancy that they had a remote control! We had a big console TV-HiFi center, too. No remote control and black and white. Remember the confusing UHF/VHF dials and tuning in the channel with the knob? The click of the rotary dial for the channels? The rabbit ears--and, yes, tin foil! Having to wait for the tubes to warm up? The playing of the national anthem and then the snowy, crackly logo that ran all night after the stations went off the air? Yes, you brought back memories. :)

Sorry you're under the weather again! I've been having a hard time reading your posts as the bandwidth out here in the middle of the South Pacific is pretty crummy, but every once in awhile I can pop in. You will have noticed I haven't posted in ages...I'll be making up for lost time when we get home. Lots to show y'all!

Amazing, that they had a remote in 1967. We still only had black and white here in Australia and no technology like remotes until the late seventies early eighties! But a gorgeous picture!

We had a similar set while I was growing up. All I could think of was the word Motorola when I saw your page. Ha. Good advertising on their part eh. I hated VCR's so I am glad I am not old school in that regard. xox

Parents were strict we weren't allowed to watch anything that wasn't educational. The Moon Landing was the only thing i pestered to watch and i got my way, an awesome day indeed :-) xxx

There was definitely no remotes in the 60's. We got our first color TV in 1967 and that cabinet was more like 1970. But it is fun. We had a silver tea service set like that and it was only used for showers or parties and only for coffee. I like you collage.
