Cutting day

Over the weekend, it was cutting day.

First came the lawn mower,

which helped cut back the path I had built.

Then I mowed the lawn,

but didn't get out the edger,

or the trimmer.
I didn't bother picking up trash that had been thrown in the yard,

and I didn't sweep.

That's because it was cutting day, and I was very excited.

Yes, it was the first time I had harvested any of my herbs.  I could have cut lots more, but I chose to cut just what I knew I would use in the coming week.

Of course, I couldn't leave without checking on my tomatoes.  I've never had tomatoes so early in the year before.  It was almost a miracle.

While cutting my basil, I noticed a fly had taken an interest in my globe basil, which was already starting to flower.  Just four or five short weeks ago, these were seeds, and now I had a huge harvest.

Once inside, I carefully washed the herbs and laid them to dry on the counter.

It was truly a cutting day.  Of course, that meant I needed a weeding, edging, sweeping, trimming, general clean-up day!!  And as much as I hate to admit it, today is that day.  Which means it's also time to mow again, I fear.  So that means I'll be offline while I'm "slaving away."

Hope you are having a great day, and enjoying whatever art comes your way, whether it be painting, collage, photography, or gardening.

oh my, your herbs look lovely! does that mean we will get a peek at how you used them in your recipes? I dearly love the sage, and I bag it up in sandwich baggies after it has dried. It's wonderful in anything with chicken. don't work too hard dear! ♥

Oh Elizabeth! How I would love to sit on your veranda - the smell of the herbs, the tinkling of your chimes and...,, if he would allow....a stroke or two of Bleubeard! I know that along with a lovely garden there is a lot of work so just be careful! If you want to see another keen gardener take a look at Lindsay Mason's blog (on my sidebar) have a lovely day! While you are out getting exercise and vitamin D, I am in the dark in the middle of a thunderstorm. Can't complain too much because we really need the rain.

Your herbs look lovely!!! I harvested again today too. Lots of oregano and chocolate mint. Tomorrow it will be lemon balm and winter savory. I may check out the thyme and see if it's ready again too. I also had to do the weeding, trimming and mowing so it was a hard working day off from the job. :)

Great pictures of your day Elizabeth - I'm in awe of your gardening abilities. I could show pictures of my garden as "what not to do" or "how to annoy your neighbours" as I really don't do much with it any more.

Your herbs looks great! I really need to harvest some as well. My cilantro is changing color...like it's Fall. I fear it may have gone past it's prime.
