And now it begins: Summer of Color, Week 1

Kristin our lovely host of Summer of Color, or SOC 4 as we know it, has issued the first challenge.

This week we had to use Aqua blue and yellow, with a splash of hot pink.  What better way to start, than with the printer inks my friend gave me last week.

After I tore a few pieces of an old bed sheet to size, I began by laying two sheets of paper towel over one sheet of wax paper, which covered my plate I would use to catch the ink.

I twisted the torn sheet until I had a shape I liked.

Using the cyan and yellow printer inks, I covered both sides of the fabric.

I did the same with magenta and yellow on another sheet.  I even liked the paper towels, but didn't use them in this project.

In my sewing room, I cut three hearts that were mainly yellow and hot pink.  I worried that the yellow in the main fabric was not bright enough or equal to the aqua, but that was how it turned out and there wasn't much I could do to change it now.

I believe the colors are truer in the scan than the photos,

as can be seen in this close up of one of the hearts.

Originally, I was going to add words like joy, hope, and love to the hearts, but couldn't remember if we were allowed to use black, so I left them plain.
