The Olympics are coming

This might look like a T(ea) Tuesday post, but I assure you it isn't.  It's part of a spread in my 7 Continents altered book.  I don't normally print images that go in my altered books from photos I find on the internet, because I like to save my ink for better things.  But this time I had no other options.

I give you my version of what looks like a wonky page in my AB called Sochi, Russia. I'm not sure how cold it is in Sochi, but thankfully, it's warming a bit here.  The mascots, a polar bear, a rabbit, and a leopard, were chosen by votes cast over the internet.  The mug is from the souvenir page of the official 22nd Winter Games web site.

I've had these flags for several years.  They came on a roll and I cut them apart.  There are others, but I could only get a certain number on the page because each flag opens, as you can probably tell from the German flag.  And because they all open, that's what made the page seem wonky when I scanned it.

Although my favorite is the polar bear because of its plight and possible extinction in my lifetime, I thought the rabbit and leopard had really cute faces on these souvenirs one can buy online or if they attend the games.  You might be able to tell one of the leopard's ears is partially hidden under the Saudi flag,

while a portion of the cup handle is hidden under the Egyptian flag.  This is truly an interactive page.

Although I created this page to be included in my Asian continent, Sochi claims to be the longest city in Europe.  Since Sochi is on the southern side of the Caucasus Mountains, some use these mountains as the Europe/Asia divide, which places Sochi in Asia.  However, one newspaper stated
The Olympic flame's Asian odyssey ended Sunday as the torch relay crossed back into European Russia on its way to the Games’ host city, Sochi.       (source: http://www.news.nom.co/sochi-olympic-flame-returns-to-europe-7563531-news/)
Since I'm not all that good with geography (my worst Trivial Pursuit category), I included it in Asia before I even considered it might be in Europe.

I hope this altered book page gets you in the mood for the 22nd Winter Olympics this February.  Materials used were portions of a map I gessoed over, flags cut from a roll of flags, and Sochi images I copied and printed from the internet, then "sort of" fussy cut with some very dull scissors.

You come up with the best ideas for AB pages! love the look of the page, and the flags seem kind of a 'vintage' feel to me. since the flags open up did you put art there too? or is there info about the country? anyway, glad it's warmed up there a bit for you. Ohio is getting rain and it's a balmy 48 degrees. Probably won't last long but we'll enjoy it while we can. better than the wind chills of 25 below 0!

My altered books always turn into sketchbooks, but yours are great. We are zooming up to 111 degrees in the next few days so I'll be thinking of you and your cold weather

That's a fun tribute page. I get what you mean about not liking to print things but there are times when it just has to be done!
