Yet another technique to use with file folders

Today I'm once again working with file folders, but this time I'm

far less frustrated than yesterday because I'm coloring them with solvent ink and alcohol.  Specifically, I'm using 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and StazOn Reinkers.  I keep all my reinkers separate (dye, pigment, and solvent) and these are all StazOn, which are solvent based.  I am sure there are other solvent based reinkers on the market, but these are the only ones I use.  And this is about the only time I mention a product by name.  And no, I get nothing for mentioning the brand.  I also have one empty cup for mixing.  You need one for each color you mix.

For those of you who visit my blog a LOT, you will note that you have never been able to read the labels before.

For those of you new to my blog, if you don't believe me, here is a photo from last year.  I keep saying how much I love my new camera, and I'm sure it makes you long time readers happy, too.

But back to the original project, I added about six drops of reinker (cherry pink in this case) to the empty cup.

I then added a "bit" of alcohol (do NOT use 70%) to the cup.  Now this is not rocket science.  If you need measurements, start with a tablespoon of alcohol and add more alcohol if the color is too strong for your liking.

As I've stated in the past, one of the things I enjoy about this technique is the background dries very quickly and your substrate (in this case, the file folders) stays perfectly flat.

I now have 10 file folders colored on both sides, and it only took me four very frustrating days.  To complete this first layer of these file folder backgrounds, I used acrylic paint and a gift card spreader the first day, acrylic paint and leaves as stencils and masks the second day, paint and gift card spreader, as well as handmade shimmering mists the third day, and solvent reinkers and alcohol the fourth day (today).  For those of you counting, that is 20 sides.

This is Day 14
of AEDM and I am finally finished laying down the initial background colors for my file folders I will turn into Christmas gifts.

Hello, I enjoyed the pictures and the how pretty they look. For some reason not all the pictures are showing. Sorry it took 4 long days of making them.
Can't wait to see what you do with them, excited and curious.

Thank your for the comment on my SNOW post. I even went out and made a mandala last night before it's gone.
Take care and hope whatever creative project is next goes easier and faster for you.

Love the look of these. I think I might try that, or see what happens with alcohol markers and this technique.

Beautiful colors and the story behind the creation of these folders shows your dedication and perseverance.

I really enjoy your photos and the story behind the action. I hope today is a better day for you!

Long process but then you have several files ready to go. I usually do a long process for ONE thing which isn't very productive. I'd better take a lesson here.

Hi Elizabeth.
You are getting quite a few folders finished. I think I like the last method best, I have no patience for watching paint dry. LOL And the ink colors seem to be the prettiest in MHO!

I could have sworn I stopped by this morning and commented on these file folders--I think I am losing my mind today :) Anyway, I thought I spied some lace that you used as a stencil--very pretty effect!

I have inks but I rarely use them. Your file folders help me believe that I really ought to pull them out and play with them.

Maybe this weekend? LOL
