Recycled trash

I spent most of my day out and about, running errands and buying groceries for the upcoming (American) holiday.  So I had little practically no time to make art, or even visit my internet friends.  For that I apologize.

When I cleaned my basement a month or so back, I found a bunch of old CDs I was hanging onto for whatever reason, and decided to pitch them.  I bet we all have a few of those old AOL CDs the internet company sent to our homes years and years ago when they were trying to get us to join AOL.
Then it hit me that I should try to salvage a few of them.  So today I covered each of six on both sides with various leftover book pages I had removed to reduce bulk in my altered books I'm working on.  Since I'm not sure if these would make adequate gifts, I used PVA (white school glue) to affix the papers.  I allowed them to dry, then cut two holes in each CD using my Crop-a-Dile, a tool I can't live without.  To cover the backgrounds, I started swiping pigment ink in places on the pages.  Bored with that, I grabbed a piece of ribbon and tied them together so they wouldn't get lost in the shuffle.

Not much to show for today, but I can truthfully say I made art.  I can even call it mixed media art and used recycled materials, too.

This is day 27
and I'm once again joining Leah for AEDM where I recycled some old CDs destined for the trash.  Only three more days, so I know everyone who has participated in this event can breathe a sigh of relief and know they will soon earn their place in AEDM history.

I love these, I love tags of any sort. I saw a book once that was made from cds.
There is some hand dyed fabric in my project, and lots of silks, satins and chiffons, too. The project was due this week, but I think my group is going to pospone till after thanksgiving and maybe christmas, so now I have tons of time to finish it

What a great Idea! We just found a whole box of CDs (in that garage clean out!)we were planning to dump. Guess I better retrieve them before the trash man comes!

Hey, Elizabeth, question...When you look on the linky thingie, am I #2? On my screen it shows up as blank, and I'm not listed at all, but I SHOULD be #2. Can you check for me? It happened yesterday, too.

Way to go on getting some art into your day. I like this idea and that you strung them together. Anything circle makes me happy just like hearts do.

Hope you can relax a little bit today before the big day tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing your Thanksgiving pictures.

Have a wonderful day today and tomorrow if I don't see you before then.
Thankful for the friendship and support and inspiration you give me!! HUGS!

Something about the CD's tied together pleases me. KInd of "bookish" already. Wishing you and Bleubeard the very best of Thanksgivings!

It does look kind of like a book, tied together like that. And it could become a wonderful pull out tag from a pocket--in an altered file folder, perhaps.
Wonder if I can find one of those crop-a-dile thingies...

I was out food shopping for T-day yesterday, too. Mad house! but I kept smiling cause we all want a happy day and the shopping is part of it.
Cool find, those cd's ~glad you had saved them. If yo had a giant tree to decorate in your front yard you could have made them into big mandala ornaments! LOL ~ you can't take me anywhere, I see them all over!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all of your fabulous guests!!
Love,
Dawn

Good for you trying to give them a new life. I still have a huge stack of them that I'm ignoring.

Like you, I am stretching some days for my AEDM offering. It sort of feels like cheating when I throw together a collage and use an old poem, but I love that Leah defines creativity so broadly - and in the past raking the yard, fixing a nice soup and just taking photographs has sufficed. I love AEDM - I always promise myself I'll keep it up and I never do. Maybe this year!

ohmigawsh ohmigawsh ohmigawsh!! These are wonderful!! More places to put beloved words! I would never have thought of this and just this past weekend at the workshop I facilitated we broke CD's for an exercise so I have oodles of cd pieces. Now I know how I will incorporate them into my art. I'm thinking of whole new uses for thrifted record albums, too!

Yes, we are a couple recycle lovers, aren't we!

Woot Woot!!

Yes I have a stack of these that I keep saving too... I've also used them to make mobiles and hung them from tree limbs and above the strawberry patch in the spring time. Gift tags are a great idea. Hope your holidays is fantastic...Now I"m off to bake a pie or two.
