Mandala Monday: October Herbs

Once again I'm joining Dawn at Girl Unwinding for Mandala Monday.

It was so windy today, I was unable to create a Mandala outside.  So I'm in my dining room, but can't seem to get the table color correct when I try to take an overhead shot.  Add to that the fact I'm too short to get the entire mandala in my photo, and you can probably read (or possibly feel) a slight sigh of frustration.

As you might have guessed from the title, I put together a mandala representing my October herb garden, or what remains of it.  I started with four "arms" made of leaves (the long slivers) of lemon grass.

Radiating from the center at a 45 degree angle are four lovely leaves from what I believe to be some type of squash.  These leaves have furry veins on the back I can't wait to use as prints on fabric.  On either side of these leaves are two cilantro leaves.  I used these in eggs as soon as I took the photos.  No "do overs" were possible once I made my lunch.

Sitting on top of each lemon grass leaf was a sprig of basil.  How good they smelled.

I tried to take a close-up of the cilantro and a single lemon grass leaf, but the lighting was all wrong because the camera was facing the sun.

I've become obsessed with taking close-ups, and these basil leaves that sit in the middle of the mandala are no exception.  Can you see where the lemon grass leaves come together?

I wanted to capture the dew that I left on the tops of the squash leaves, and hoped you could see the fuzz and the veins on the leaves, too.

One final shot for good measure, and I was ready to cook my eggs and cilantro.

Don't forget to visit Dawn for an absolutely awesome mandala.  I haven't seen it, but I simply KNOW it's awesome.  So please check it out.

I like the mandala and the fact that you can eat it when you finish is just a plus. Basil is a favorite of mine, great from the garden but way too expensive if you have to buy it at the market.

Good Morning Elizabeth!!
I could tell from the first photo that this was a super FRESH Mandala and it is! wow, I am envious of your lemongrass and I can almost smell that basil, a favorite in any garden for me. I love the square shape of this one. The square mandalas are pretty awesome, to me. I am also enjoying your adventures in photographing them. You are really bent on getting every angle and it is a joy to see.
thank you so much for joining me and for sharing your love of all things natural, I am honored. Namaste.
Happy Mandala Monday to you
~Dawn
