The bag: a spread in my new altered book

I was shopping on Tuesday and was given this bag.  When I got it home, it fell apart.  So much for a sturdy bag.  However, I loved the message and didn't want to get rid of the bag in its entirety before I created something with it.  After all, not everything needs to go to the trash (or in my case, fuel for my chiminea).

Before I started my September project (which is taking much longer than I expected due to procrastination), I cut a few tags using the only die I own.  Since the sentiment was on both sides of the bag, I used the relevant words to create the tags.

Here is a detail shot of the tags.

I wish I could get the entire spread in a single scan, but the book is simply too large for that.  Here is the right side with the complete sentiment.  As you can see, I even saved the handle, the only decoration I used on the page.

I sandwiched the handle between two consecutive pages.

And finally, evidence of the part of the bag that was torn.

For this spread in my new AB, I proved I can't seem to throw even broken or torn things away when I can add them in some way to my altered book.  I'm really quite pathetic.  But at least you now know the truth about my hoarding habits desire to go green (grin).  To make matters worse, I am off again today to pick up a few things that were not originally on Tuesday's list.  So I may wind up with even more altered art fodder today.

Fab spread my lovely, brilliant use of something that would have gone in the trash, way to go sweetie. Ha ha ha I nearly recycled a Macdonalds bag over the summer (school holiday treat with my tiddlies) until I realised that the gussets had some fab subtle text on them and the back had a funky maze on it, all collaged on various things now tee hee - you have taught me well master lol.

You made me chuckle today...says the one who has a pile of used tea bags sitting on her desk, waiting to be emptied and used. I also have a box of tea bag waste that a company I order tea from used as packing/cushioning material. Evidently, they make round tea bags & save the waste for packing. Now, what will I do with that?

great bag although I'm not sure the sentiment is quite true as crafting and recycling is definately up there with food.
Have a great week and happy Wednesday

Brilliant! I think being given your groceries in a paper bag only happens in the States... because everywhere else uses plastic bags and they wouldn't be half as fun to use in your AB!!

OMG, this is soooo cute and creative!! I think it's great you saved the bag and the handle is SO DANG CUTE!! What a neat idea for the ways you saved the bag, love this!! I would go back and get another bag even if I didn't need anything. These words are so true, too bad not good for our waistline though, lol.

I painted yesterday and have been to the apple orchard, spending less time on the computer this week so I can get stuff done. Will have fun stuff to post next week.

Take care dear friend and you didn't mention your back so hope that is a good sign. HUGS!!

Hey there Dr. Liz! I have tried calling and emailing to no effect and then just now read on your blog profile that your having some troubles with email. I though this love of food post would be a good one to comment/write to you on since we have shared quite a few great meals together! Anyways, our baby boy, Ariel Alexander was born on Sept. 7. He is healthy and momma is doing great. On a very, very, sad note Blaise Pascal has passed away, he died from complications of pneumonia. There will be a Wichita memorial/celebration of his life on October 26, I'm looking into flying back for this. Let me know when a good time to call is, that is if you have a phone that is working. I've tried quite a few times over the last month with no luck. Peace & Love my friend.
