A time to dye (my simple way)

After the success with my onion skin dye, and my pale reception (pun intended) to the dyed cinnamon sticks, I thought I would revert back to my old standby: 90% rubbing alcohol and Staz-on reinkers.  Any permanent solvent reinker will work, but I have never used anything other than Staz-on (see this post among many where I show how to mix the two).

Last night I dyed some lace in the alcohol/ink solution and allowed it to sit overnight.  Then earlier today I tore several pieces of that same bed sheet I used in my onion skins and cinnamon dyeing projects.

I poured the excess "Cactus Green" mixture on two pieces of the bed sheet and allowed them to dry, which took no time at all, even though it is November and the temperatures should be much lower in the midwest USA.

Next came "Mustard" (and a shadow of my right arm in the photo).  After these pieces were dry,

I colored the last batch with "Blazing Red," which always looks pink to me.  There was also one piece of bed sheet that I sopped up all the colors with.  When these were dry, I ironed the pieces.

This is Day 10 of AEDM.  Are you keeping up?  Is blogger working nicely for you, or is it causing you headaches?  Sorry if I don't leave a comment.  I tried the trick of unchecking the "sign in" box, but it didn't help.  I still can't leave a comment on any blog with embedded comments.  Of course, that only applies to blogger, not other blog platforms like TypePad and WordPress.

I am not keeping up...but then again I never promised I would. :)

Lovin' your dyed materials here Elizabeth...there really isn't anything you don't do here!

What an exciting result, Elizabeth! I will remember this dying technique for future reference. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

You are building up a wonderful supply of dyed materials to play with. Love the pink, very pretty indeedy!!

I am still in Scotland... the Oz visa peeps are taking their time! The cats have managed to mess things up nicely for me too... Oz insists they spend 6 months in the UK before I can ship them over to Oz, so guess who will be home alone for Christmas whilst Chris is sunning himself in Brisbane? No matter, it will give me a bit longer to unpack and pack again!! LOL

Oh...I love fabric dyeing. Those colors are very bold. Can't wait to see what you do with them.
BTW--I removed the embedded comment form on my blog. I'm starting to think a lot more people than you are having trouble. I've gotten tons of pages views on my blog but hardly any comments. Not that I've had much interesting to write or share lately...

Wow!! Gorgeous, yummy colors ... and I am looking forward to seeing what you do with these too.

I dropped my jaw when I saw your post about $40+/skein alpaca! Was that a large skein (1000 yards or more?) or lace weight or perhaps handspun? If none of those, I'd stay away from that store. I paid close to $40 one time on a small skein (about 37 yards), but it was directly from the fiber artist who spun and dyed the fiber, and it was lace weight spun on a drop spindle. Intensive work, beautiful yarn!

You're not the only one who has that problem with blogger, I had some friends with the same issue which is why I had to change my comments to pop out instead! Temps over here are cool to cold, normal Fall for us! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)

Oh, I'm in! I haven't been able to get a dialogue of here for a handful of days. I suspect it's iPad and I haven't had the PC to use instead. Hideous. LOVE this dyeing technique....the cactus green is one of my fave colours...it transfers beautifully. Actually, they all do...am with you on the blazing red...always a good pink...never a great red!
Love the Aed ethos...wish I could clear some of my 'issues' and just get on. Still, life is issues, huh!

Oh, that is my very favorite color of green!! If only I could wear it and not look like a pea pod, lol. Thank you for your comments lately, what I'm doing is collecting emails from friends who are no reply bloggers so I can add them to my email client, giving me a way of getting back to you. If you'd like to share your email, just send it to oilandwater [at] telus [dot] net
Best,
