A not so Silent Sunday: A visit with my friend Kathy in the hospital

I've had a bit of a problem with Blogger. For nearly three days I was unable to log onto my account. I was unable to retrieve my dashboard and unable to leave comments to anyone who didn't allow anonymous visitors/comments. I truly see the advantage to this option, and have even been complimented in the past for keeping it as part of my blog post comments.

It seems almost like a miracle that I am able to access my blog account at about the time

I would normally be preparing my Sunday CED post.

So join me tonight as I retrieve a few photos to show what I have been doing most of this past week.

Not a very impressive view, is it? Actually, it's a lot clearer than the one you will find in my friend Kathy's

room. OK, this view isn't too bad. In fact, this was just the first of many bouquets she received. I wish I'd taken a photo of the Oriental bouquet with the birds of paradise. That was my favorite. By the time I left her room today, there was more color from flowers, stuffed animals, and talking toys than you can possibly imagine.

But my focus was really on the exterior, so when I raised the blinds, I was shocked

at how dirty the windows in the rooms were. Seems they are only cleaned in the commons areas.

No matter where I focused my camera, you could see the dirty window.

The first day I visited, I was exhausted when I went home. The walk from the parking lot to the building is not for the faint of heart. And I'm not much of a walker anymore, since my back has been in such pain lately. But the second day was much easier, although going in the morning was actually harder than returning to the car in the afternoon. Of course, early mornings were much cooler, and there were days I thought I would have heat stroke by the time I got home in a car with no AC.

I finally realized there was a wealth of art, sculpture, and photography within

the walls of these four buildings that make up Wesley Hospital.

Even the floors offered a photo op. If you have a good camera, that is!

As I was leaving the commons area the second day, one of the nurses told me the hospital was celebrating 100 years of operation, so I was especially excited to see the various photos that lined the walls all the way to the doors that led to the parking area.

I still need to get the rest of the photos off my camera, so I will share them as I can size them and decide which ones are usable. (As an aside, I took all these photos on Thursday, the second day after her surgery, and Kathy will more than likely go to a rehab facility in her hometown tomorrow, which is Monday). As with most of my photos, I need to take at least three to five photos for every one that I use on my blog. However, there were so many photos as I walked the halls and read the inscriptions, I realized I could take over 500 if I weren't careful. So I leave you with this teaser, at least I hope it's a teaser!

Those of you who have left a link to your altered book homework and I have been unable to leave a comment, I'll be by shortly to visit. And of course, I'll be back next week with another AB lesson. You won't want to miss it, it's almost remedial!

Very familiar territory there. I hope your friend recovers soon.

I hope your friend heals quickly. :)
Funny how you expect hospital windows to be clean, but I never thought about it until you mentioned how dirty they were. I've never seen window cleaners outside of a hospital, now that I thought about it. They had a lot of interesting artwork about, though.
It's rough when you have more trouble getting about than you used to. Most annoying. I'm glad you could be there for her, though. :)

I'm sure your friend appreciates your thoughtfulness and support -- you find out who your real friends are when you're down. Your photo essay really tells a story. Sorry that Blogger has been giving you headaches -- I went through a rough patch about 4 months ago, when no one could comment on my blog. It finally seemed to resolve itself. Have a creative week, Elizabeth!

Hope your friend gets quickly mended and home again. Can't believe the dirt on the windows, ugh, but the art peak was worth it, I love old black and white photos like that. xox

I really like your little folded booklet - it represented the color combo so well and was a fun exercise in color, composition, techniques and even stitching (I still haven't got my sewing machine out for any of that!). I can't believe all the trouble you have with blogger - I wonder if it's territorial or interaction with your server or provider or whatever? I rarely have any trouble at all. Thank goodness, because nothing is so frustrating as when the computer doesn't work like it's supposed to. I'm not sure how to activate the anonymous feature on my comments - will go check it out...
Hope your friend recovers quickly.

I too was visiting a friend in the hospital this weekend too. Although I didn't think to take my camera and there wasn't anything interesting (like that old photo) or the compass (don't know what it's really called) on the floor. I hope your friend is on the mend soon and is able to leave the hospital.

Hugs,
Kay

With havin so much content and articles do
you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright
violation? My blog has a lot of completely unique content I've either authored myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my authorization. Do you know any ways to help stop content from being ripped off? I'd certainly appreciate it.
