What's on YOUR workdesk this Wednesday (# 117)

The weather is the big topic here. As of Tuesday, we have had 49 days of 100 degree F or hotter temperatures. Today (Wednesday) we will tie the record of 50 days, which started when we topped 100 F on May 8. As we gear up for the hottest summer on record (we only need today and tomorrow to break the all-time record set in 1936), I am taking my workspace

Linkoutside to my back patio. I actually shot this around 10 am my time Tuesday. I like how the sun spotlights the journal I am working on before the day gets too hot to appreciate being outside. I will let my blog readers know on Friday if we broke the record on Thursday. This in a year where many of our daily records were broken.

And for those of you who want a rocking horse or three, here are some from my office.

Now I know that Julia will be much cooler at Stamping Ground, because most of my British friends are enjoying the much cooler end of summer, so please hop on over and see her, her desk, and the rest of the links this week. BTW 105 F is 40.56 C.

You must be heartily sick of the heat by now... we have had it pretty warm (nothing like yours though) and then today I wake up to 12 degrees C... well!! That was a bit of a shock to the system and I hope that its not an indicator that summer is over... can't think about shovelling snow again just yet!! Looking forward to seeing your journal pages... what does Bleubeard think of the heat? My two tend to turn back into Saudi cats and stretch out and sleep it away!!

I don't like hot weather, as it is, but over 3 months of it.....your nerves are made of steel, I'm sure of it. You know we had a visitor from Sweden and I was feeling uncomfortable thinking about living for three months out of the year with almost no daylight....that would be a piece of cake next to three months of a 100 degrees. I hope it breaks soon and you get a period of cool before you get the cold.

E, your heat is a killer. But you have gone this long so yo might as well enjoy the record that I know you will get.

Good grief, Charlie Brown - that's a humdinger of a heatwave. You must have looked at that forecast and thought 'Yay, down to a freezing 97 degrees F in a couple of days time - break out the winter woollies' !! The US is having its fair share of extreme weather this year, isn't it? Is it an El Nino year or what?? Hope you and Bleubeard are taking it easy and eating lots of ice cream :D xx

Love the picture of your journal. I'm in Britain and it's freezing. I'm taking the kids to a fun day at the local school I've hadvto dig out the winter hats and gloves. It's usually warmer than this, we haven't had much of a summer this year.

Julia Cool here - and not just in weather...I like to think that depsite my mumsy appearance age and demeanour, I am actually, cool. Delusionally so! Gosh I love the thought of sitting on your porch with dappled sunlight and a journal for company. I realise the heat is exhausting, but let me have my fiction!

Wow! you must be well cooked, roasted and turned by now and ready for the frosting! It's is peculiar how the grass is always greener.... we'd like some warmth and you some of our cool temp. We put the central heating on y'day!
Yes! a great time was had here with Donna and the compressed air (via a can which is intended to air blast dust from cameras, keyboards etc.,) was used to splat drips of alcohol inks on glossy card artistically for backgrounds. It's really good fun to do with spectacular results.
Love JoZarty x

When it comes to weather, we're never happy are we? I hated summers in New York; now I'm back in Manchester I miss them!

I love the natural spotlight; it's like nature approves of your work!

Wow..you do have HOT temps in Ks. Was North of you 2 wks ago and saw some bad destruction from huge hail. Most of the crops are gone. Have classmates from your area too. Rain is on its way for us, but a little too late for any help for the crops.
Have fun, Enjoy WOYWW

Well you are right about UK having 'the cooler end of summer' - positively shilly enough here for the central heating. Still the sight of your workspace and rocking horses brings a little sunshine

Darla said...

Good that you found a little spot to work that wasn't just melting. The heat must be pretty tiresome by now.

Wishing you cool....

You really do have it hot there. :) And I thought I was going to melt. :) I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing to break the record. But good luck with it! :)

A tall glass of your iced tea would be the perfect accompaniment!

I really don't know how you have managed in the extreme heat without any let up. The temperatures have been autumnal here for a while. I love the shady spot to work on your journal.

Cooler and wetter end of the Summer here! Looks like a great place for a bit of journalling there though :)

Oh but look at Friday! Below 100!! Yeah, you'll be doing the happy dance lol. I wouldn't worry about it too much now, you know the snow will be here soon! We're officially a month ahead with our weather, we got August weather in July, September weather in August and we're all concerned about the rest of the year.... does this mean an extended fall or an early winter??

I was wondering if you guys had continued to close in on the record! I just find it so hard to believe that we have cooler temps here in the south but we are averaging at around 92 for the high and very pleasant low 70's in the mornings...I'm looking forward to hearing you talk about cooler weather....it HAS to happen at some point, right?

Elizabeth said...

Now isn't that just like the thing - you're ready to celebrate (?) the hottest summer since 1936 and we are shivering in our coldest for 16 years here in Scotland. I wish there was a way of evening things out for us. Got my weekly fix of rocking horses but where's Bleubeard in all this - keeping cool I hope. Elizabeth x #51

Oh Elizabeth we have a cold front a coming and I will be gone! I hear that starting Sunday we will be in the 90's and maybe high 80's. Maybe the start of a fall decline! I wish we could have shared this heat and dry weather with our friends. Have a great week and thanks for sharing. Vickie

Hope you and the rocking horses are keeping cool! 100 degrees is a bit hot, but wish we could have had a bit more heat during the miserably wet summer we have had in the UK! x

Oh my, that's HOT! Sounds a bit like 2009 when we had the Black Saturday fires here in Victoria. Poor Mother Earth.

Oh wow that is hot, not sure I could cope with that much heat. Love the journal, I have bought Kate Cranes dvd and follow her blog, shes really inspirational. I sent the little rocking horse charms on the 12th August, in an envelope, I filled in this over seas gift form but the post officer worker said that I shouldn't need to, I have a feeling its stuck at customs. I will it another two weeks and if you don't receive them I have another one which I will send but this time I shall fill the form in and send it recorded so I can trace it. :-) kezzy x
