As riots continue to erupt in London, Birmingham, Bristol, and Liverpool, I hope my British friends are safe. My thoughts are with you tonight (today in your world).
The United State's media television is more concerned with its AAA monetary rating and the declining economy, than it is in covering the news in England. I, on the other hand, hope each of you, my British friends, are safe and secure in your homes and work today. Here's hoping the police in those cities under siege are able to get the fires and looting under control soon. Although I don't usually use this blog for social commentary, I felt this deserved a mention.

Thank you for those kind thoughts. I've been mostly lurking for a while, but had to break silence to say thanks. We are about 4 miles from the nearest trouble, and the news reports are absolutely shocking. Best wishes to you and Mr B.

Sue and I are geographically close and luckily, away from metropolitan centres. These events are awful, scarring our national reputation and ruining lives and livelihoods. The original, quiet protest was hijacked by people who saw an opportunity to loot and wreck, we've seen pictures of people just carrying stuff out of shops, as if they'd bought it..no hurry or conscience. Shocking and so scarey for friends in these areas. They don't call the Polic Forces the 'thin blue line' for nothing..shows that there's very little between civilisation and anarchy.

Thanks for your thought! Stiff upper lip n all that! They will decide today if they are going to read the Riot Act - most people think its just a phrase - its actually a proper Act - A man on a horse reads the riot Act and if the crowd does not disperse then the army is sent in - if anyone gets hurt or dies then it is on their own back as they were given fair warning to disperse - all pomp and circumstance even in the face of rioters! I love being English! LOL
I've been thinking of everyone in England as well. NPR (here in the US) has had some pretty good coverage of the problems and they sound scary. Stay safe everyone!

Just saw snippets of this on GMA this morning - will have to watch and then tune in BBC to see what it is all about - scary for those who live there- and I have a friend who is headed there for a business trip.
