Because you asked . . . and then the rain came

Since many of you asked for pictures of when the Surprise Lilies (also known as Naked Ladies, as Patty so kindly reminded me) bloomed, and since I had no planned post for today, here they are in the heat of Tuesday afternoon. You can see the ones on the left had already bloomed, but the ones on the right were not even out of the ground early Tuesday morning when I took the tea photos.

They are a lovely shade of pink, although the one closest to the camera is washed out in the camera lens by the sun.

The ones in the bed had mostly bloomed, as the late afternoon sun provided the majority of the day's sunlight.

I went to bed around 2:00 am, early for me on a Wednesday morning, complete with rain, thunder, and lightening providing a welcome and magical backdrop for sleep. I awoke around 6:30 am and went out to take photos of the Naked Ladies. Much to my chagrin,

the rain had pelted them to the ground. Because it was still raining, I was unable to leave the porch, so my mailbox took over a big portion of the above photo.

Moving to my right along the porch railing, I was still unable to get rid of the step railing.

By this time, after replacing my camera batteries, it was starting to rain hard, as can be evidenced by the rain water in my fish-less tub. The wind had really picked up too, making it difficult to get a good shot of the lilies that was in focus.

Joining me on the porch after I got fresh camera batteries from the charger, was Bleubeard.

However, it wasn't long till he was bored and wanted back in the house. I'm glad his left paw was in focus, or someone might wonder if he was really a cat!

The rain cooled the temperature until around noon. Then the humidity and heat returned, but no nearly as bad as it has been for the past month. By the way, when I went to Sally's to check on her cats after the rain stopped, I tried to place the lilies closest to the walk upright. I broke one stem, and had to let the rest stay in the ground cover.

Wow, those are really cool- they just come up overnight- I wonder if they'd grow in Georgia? Yesterday afternoon, I swear I felt just a touch an Autumn breeze under the heat and humidity, so maybe relief is coming soon?

Its the humidity that gets to me, I can take the heat but when its humid as well I just can not cope. I love your flower bed its just the kind of thing I can see you doing. lol

Oh poop.... poor naked ladies... they pop their necks out of the ground and bloom, look pretty for a wee while and hope they will attract the eye of some passing handsome man and Mother Nature chucks water on their heads!! I am sure the rest of your garden was grateful for the drink though...

Well you certainly got some lovely "before" the storm came photos E!
Hopefully those Naked Ladies will perk up LOL!

We are having two unusual days with humidity in the 30% range = yahoo ... enjoying that while it lasts!

The humidity makes all the difference...doesn't it combined with the heat = Ugh!!!

I am curious if the broken stem holds up in water...they have such a delicate fragrance

oh and I am envious of all your rain...we may get some badly needed rain over the weekend :)

oh isn't it frustrating how fragile some of nature's beauty can be? Makes me think of the beauty of all the blossoms in the spring then along comes a windy spring rain and they are gone. I guess it emphasizes that we MUST live in the moment!
