WOYWW 105: Not for human consumption

Julia's Stamping Ground is still rocking from last week's second anniversary. In case you haven't checked Julia's brainchild, WOYWW out, please do so by showing your work desk and linking to Julia. Of course, you don't really have to show your desk! Today I'm not even in my craft room, but at my kitchen table.

Although it looks like edible items are on the table, these containers are filled with items that will not be used for human consumption.

Isn't this a DARLING rocking horse? I couldn't help but show it as my rocking horse of the week. Yep, its an unmounted rubber stamp and was one of the lovely gifts sent to me by OhhhSnap, whose PIF arrived on Saturday in record speed. Be sure to check out Ohhh Snap's blog post today to see what else I received from her. So what's on my kitchen table other than my lovely new rocking horse, you ask?

The generic equivalent of Kool-Aid unsweetened drink mix (2 packages of each "color"), a new jar of white vinegar, which will act as a mordant (the agent that will set the color), sea salt, which will be used to wick some of the color away, and unsweetened gelatin I will use for monoprinting. Yep, all these products will be used when I dye lace, fibers, yarn, and natural fiber fabric, then paint some fabric and paper using monoprinting techniques.

And do you remember this PIF teaser from last WOYWW?

I was of the opinion that I'd be lucky if the PIF I sent Nicky had left the shores of the US by today, but Nicky informed me she received my PIF yesterday, which totally surprised me at how quickly it got to her in England. So, in case anyone is interested, here is the front of my PIF, which I'll show in detail tomorrow, along with Ohhh Snap's gift.

Stay tuned because I'm on a mission to color and dye more fabric. But first, I'm off with my neighbor to a local craft show and eatery. And thanks to those of you who have changed your comments from embedded to pop-up boxes. I still can't leave a message on any blog post with embedded comments (sorry Cardarian and anyone else who doesn't have an e-mail address on their blogs/profile pages).

Well I hope that rocking horse stamp is going to get well and truly inked very soon so we can see it in a piece of your art. Lovely PiF from you but what! no rocking horse in it! I'm amazed one didn't go in for posterity! The collected items on your desk for mono printing look intriguing.

Can't wait to see what you do with all those goodies! I've been wanting to try gelatin mono printing, maybe, you will inspire me to give it a try. I can only leave comments as long as the "remember me" box is unchecked on Blogger, kind of a pain but better than not being able to comment at all.

Interesting stuff you have on your desk this week. Did do dyeing a long time ago at school , might have to ressurrect the skills again as I usually just use my Promarkers if I want a different colour on my lace or flowers.

I think those mix drink things are as close as the US gets to what we call squash. But ther's a massive difference...am perfectly sure tht you couldn't mix our squash with vinegar to dye fabrics! And I've learned another word - mordant! Your quiltlet is fab - love the swirly stitiching on the tissue paper, and I think it is the Grand Duke Ferdinand...important to history - it was his assassination that was the catalyst for the rumblings that became the Great War. Otherwise, not so important except possibly in his aristocratic head!!
