A day out and about

It was a gorgeous day, and I simply couldn't let a day that felt more like spring than summer, get away from me. Although I took my camera with me everywhere I went, I didn't take it out of my purse once.

But that doesn't mean you can't see everything I bought, hoping my motivation for art would return. Let's begin at JoAnns. Clockwise from upper left: three gold gelly roll pens from Sakura ($0.99 on clearance), 5 ink pens, also from Sakura ($2.99 on clearance) , 2 spools of thread at 50% off, a Zig gold pen that was not marked down, but I used my 40% coupon on, 4 ironing board clips, and a tape measure, both also 50% off. I'm going to try to rust these, since they look like clips I can use.

Also from JoAnns: Pellon stabilizer (two weights) and wonder under. Each of these were 2 yards and 50% off. Can you see fabric becoming something I'll be playing with this summer?

Speaking of fabric, I started to get some natural colored muslin, but put it back when I learned it was $7.99/yard. I settled for white, which was 50% off of $1.99/yard. I used a coupon I got in my flyer for this 10 yard ($10.00) purchase.

For each of these fabrics that I found on the clearance aisle, I bought anywhere from 1/8 yard to 1/2 yard. I believe they were all 72" lengths, too because they were called "decorator fabrics," whatever that meant. I spent around $8.00 for all 6 fabrics and a total of $28.00 for everything. I was quite happy, because I now can dye fabric and have fabric that I can use in quiltlets and covers for my visual journals.

I also stopped by my Household Hazardous Waste Recycle Center and picked up all these goodies for NOTHING! I'm going to try a technique I saw on Connie's blog where she used drywall paste to make a few backgrounds. I suggest you check out her blog (http://connieartz.wordpress.com) because she has two excellent tutorials she has videotaped. I'm going to mix up a batch of patching plaster to see if it will take the place of the drywall plaster, which Connie uses in place of molding or modeling paste.

Not sure what I'll do with the ammonia, but I'm sure I'll find an artistic use for it, as well as the chalkboard paint.

To end the day, I dyed my wet wipes and sopped up the excess distress ink using a couple of Viva paper towels. The pieces are

still sitting on my desk on the front porch, drying. I know they will appear in something I sew, but at this point, I have no project in mind for them. Right now, I'm just playing, trying to work my way back to art. Have you dyed anything lately? Are you being as creative as you could be?

You are the only person I know that goes to the recycle place and takes things home!! Love all your purchases and I can see the sewing machine is going to get some use in the coming weeks, lovely stuff to play with!!

I have to give it to you Elizabeth, you not only know how to savor the beautiful day but you do it so frugally! What deals you got. Any tricks to using the wonder under? I find that if the material is too thick, the edges don't stick? I'm sure you have some advice on this.

Wow! You got some great items on sale and topped that off with free stuff. I need to go shopping with you.

My creativity seems to be hiding at present, or maybe it is just buried under a pile of daily tasks of living. I'll work on those tasks and see if I can find it.

quite a haul of bargains from the fabric store. It is a gift that you can see the potential in those bargains!...some folks can't visualize what they can become...those dyed fabrics are going to make wonderful journals or quiltlets!

Great shopper you are...half off is substantial...those clips and your brilliant dye job are super too!

I am being creative in between clearing out here...long overdue...as I dig I find so many cool ingredients that are useless if I can't lay hands on them...not sure I'll ever be a labeler...but the thought crosses my mind!
Next life maybe?
