A major computer
With temperatures hovering in the range of 103F to 105F (about 40C) this week, I am only sewing in the early morning or late evening. The whole house AC simply can't keep up. Even my basement studio, which I retreat to in the late morning, gets hot as the day progresses. Wendy and Bleubeard are hiding in my office, where I run an auxiliary window air conditioner 24/7 to keep my computer and other electronic equipment cool.
I'm sewing more pages for another visual journal.
I vowed to keep it short this week, but had to show off my latest purchase: this small, but effective organizer that will hold all my sewing supplies, including my machine oil and spare needles.
Today's blog pick is Esther at Crafty Effusions. Esther is a member of WOYWW and a very sweet person who always has a kind word for everyone. Her stamping is incredible. I would even like to own any of her stamps, because they are the kind I would use. Recently, she made 55 wedding invitations for a friend. I was totally impressed because she doesn't just stamp, she also embosses. She even embossed the guest book on vellum. I would have messed up 150 to get 55 good invitations, but she took the order in stride. As for vellum, I would never have tried to emboss vellum. I admit, I did ONCE and it curled, overheated, nearly caught fire, and . . . . OK, enough about me. Go visit Esther if you want to see some awesome stamping, some lovely tags, cards, and techniques. Or go just because she's such a nice person! And have a great WOYWW.

oh no, the pop under thing that comes up in comments? It's never done anything like that before, mind you google was playing me up late last night, (no server) and now this morning there popovers (which are worse because you can't see anything else) telling me how they've upgraded gmail, and they won't go away! Is my woyww up yet? I haven't got that far!! it's on timer!! You've been sewing, I'm sure if I had one of those I'd be able to sew too!! Yes,well done Esther! I saw her lovely guess book and invites, now off to see if mr blogger worked this morning, then off to work!! Have a good day!!
((Lyn))
Ive had my sewing machine out this week, maybe should of pictured that lol.
Hope your ok in that heat im not a hot weather person so i melt just hearing that kind of temperature.
Kate x
Oooh I feel for you in that heat - I am pleased its cooling down here in the UK and it was nowhere near that hot. Enjoy the sewing you manage to do, that book is looking really good.
Hi Ya
oh i luv the heat n sun but i would struggle in that heat for to long, look forward to seeing your journal, have great day, sue,x
Would like some of your good weather but maybe not that hot. Thanks for the snoop - really enjoyed myself.
We're back to sunshine but the sunrise is low and it's feeling distinctly autumnal early mornings. I only envy your heat if I can be there to do nothing but languish by a pool. Never thought about the need to keep computer stuff cooled..not consistent enough a problem here I guess. Love those little drawers, neat idea to keep it at hand to the machine - a new needle for me means a minimum of a rummage through a drawer in a different room!
So glad it's not that hot here! Don't like it when it gets to 80 never mind 100! Hope you keep cool this week.
Loving the sewing machine .... I have one locked in a cupboard (I admit it I am shared of it!).
Hugs
Kay
Sewing stuff....very tempting as I am just starting to get into this area of crafting !!
Love your new storage, I must sort out my cottons. Hope you cool down soon.
Nancy
wow that is some heat, I just couldn't bear it. The new storage works a treat!
The pens in my photo background are promarkers, similar to copics but cheaper.
your post today reminds me i really need to use my machine more, i love stitching on paper but rarely do it.. figure that out!
hope the heat doesn't stop you crafting, happy woyww x
Hi, Wow that is hot there, we are having rain but its looks like the sun has got his hat on he he. Love your new storage box and hope you get your sewing done. Have a nice WOYWW. Hugs Jo.xx
Wow hun, that is seriously hot... how is Bleubeard coping with it??? my AlfieCat hates the heat and just flops out on my crafty chair and gets fanned... hope it cools down soon for ya... and... loving your desk...fancy popping round mine and erm... teaching me how to even thread a sewing machine lOL x
Wow dont think id be able to craft in that heat hun!Sending some cooler air over to you as i type...lol

hugs judex
I'd be in meltdown also Elizabeth in that heat. Love the page you're sewing it's looking good ;-)Love all your large spools of thread
Anne xx
Oh my goodness, 40 degrees - I would not cope at all well, 25 is my limit!!! Love the big spools of thread in your workbox, that's a sign of a serious seamstress (I only have the little ones!!!).
Julie :o)
had my machine out this week too - oh but it was soon put away and the project in the bin!!!! love your little stogage unit - have a good day whatever you do and thanks for sharing ;o)
technology I tell ya it is a right pain in the rear. this morning every time I refresh my dashboard it asks me to sign in, so frustrating. Anyway if it was not for technology I would not be here saying thanks for the snoop and take care in the heat
Kate xx
Yeah I'm with Hels, sewing on paper scares me as I have to get my mom upstairs to even thread the thing for me! Domestic goddess I am not!
Your sewing looks interesting, intrigued to see what the visual journal looks like.

Morning! Oh my goodness, i don't cope well with the heat, think it's because I'm Scottish and too used to the cold :-)

Please send some of your heat to the UK 'cos we ran out over a month ago. Hope your gorgeous pusscat is keeping cool.
Luv Joanne xx
I love sunshine and warm weather but I don't like to be slow cooked. It's amazing how "cool" you are about it all. Thanks for the peek today and I spy a blue rocking horse there!

Blimey ... how do you manage not to melt??? ... I don't like the heat ... I sit around in summer and dream of winter!
Goodness me Elizabeth..no wonder you shuddered at my Christmas project!!!!!!! Blimey thats hot!!!!
You take care & I hope it cools down for you soon XXX
Elizabeth, I'm so sorry for your heat wave (or is this normal for your area?) Last week when we were walking in the terrible heat and humidity, I kept telling my husband to keep thinking when he's shoveling our usual 2feet of snow in the 10 degree weather that we have every winter. (it didn't help much :)
I don't envy you the heat - hope you manage to maintain cool. Your stitched pages project looks beautiful :-)
Wow that is hot, Bleubeard must be struggling and so must you, I would not be able to cope with my auburn hair and fair skin. I have not had my sewing machine out of the box yet, I must rectify that. Your so kind nominating people each week and you always have a kind word to say about everyone, so THANK YOU. Hope you have a good day out and about and thanks for the nosey, love the storage for your sewing bits and bobs too. Tracy Evans x
Hi Elizabeth! I can understand the suffering when you have a heatwave - we had one 2 weeks ago - all I could do in the heat is not move! Ha, ha...love your sewing and your ever so practical "sewing stuff organizer" Have a fun woyww!
Lots of hugs,
Cardarian

Marilyn
How hot - OMG I would melt...wish I could have my machine out perm - but my area is soooooo small - have to wait to nab a bedroom when one of mine flys the nest....12th of never!
I'm excited to see more of the sewn journal. With the heat slowing you down I'm sure it could be a while!!
Love the little holder for your sewing items...I need something like that...
Wow I am glad we never get temperatures like that here I couldn't cope. Your sewing looks really good and fab new storage. Have a good day.
Elaine
Oooh, I want to see your pages!!!! Really MUST get my machine out... keep saying that. Happy WOYWW!
Whew, that is HOT! Well done for carrying on through that and a PC Meltdown! Would love to see the journal when its done, am always in awe of people who can do stuff with fabric other than make mess!
Phew that's hot - I think I would have melted by now if it was that hot here. Like the sound of your journal though - Jacqueline xx
So hot! I would have a fan on my face 24/7. Have fun with the journal!
Have a nice day
** Evi **
your stitched journal is looking quite interesting. whenever i see projects like these, i want to make one too. so many things to do, so little time. and i need one of those organizers for my sewing stuff. mine are all over and when i start sewing, it gets really messy.
Ugh, the temperatures sound awful! Hope things cool down for you soon. Your little set of draws looks perfect for storing your things in.
the bathtub is a good place to hang out when it is that hot... the weather is bound to change though... 90 here again today... not complaining though...you have it much worse! drink tea!
You are welcome to send a little bit of the heat over this way...we have had a horrible summer :0(
Hi Elizabeth, hope it cools down soon and hope you are well.
Your workplace looks fab and very full
hugs June xxxxx
Wow! That is so hot, it's amazing! It's 29C here in the tropics! Your journal looks interesting! Am always planning to use my sewing machine but I have to clamber over boxes and sacks of cloth to get to it! Haven't been brave enough to show the rest of my mess yet!

YOu poor thing all that heat, it was that temperature when we were in Florida a couple of weeks ago I dont know how people can live in it 2 weeks was enough for me.
No cupcakes left I'm afraid no matter how many I make they seem to disappear very quickly!! Hugs Pam x
You are the organizing queen E
I have been hibernating during our heat streak, no fun going out at all....yours sounds even hotter!
Take care out there!
oxo
Hot, hot, hot everywhere I think. Good to stay indoors. Love your sewing machine out and in work mode. Mine is buried in the closet.

It's just too hot this summer! I thought we were suffering in the high nineties but I feel for you! I like your little crafty catch all..thread has a tendancy to multiply given free rein so you did the right thing! :)
love your organiser! no way could I cope with that heat, nasty! Mackenzie is now curled up on my bed lapping up all the compliments and thanks you very much for the nice things you said about her. She thinks Bluebeard is very handsome too!
Yikes that's hot! I hope it doesn't last long.
amazing that I was so observant noticing the blue RH... normally everyone else pick up on things they spy before me! thanks so much for your comments, and I'll certainly post the finished letter L!
JoZarty
Thinking cool thoughts for you and the kitties!! I am envious of the aircon though... didn't think it would be a necessity in Calgary but we have had some warm days which means the bedroom is too hot to sleep in... and the basment too bare!!
oh you do say the sweetest things!!Thank you so muhc for the lovely compliments.xx
Picnic was a great success and I painted lots of faces - can't take pics to post cos of whole confidentiality thing of children in foster care but I did vampires, butterflies, cats, footballs, clowns, dogs and monsters!! One littel girl was so relaxed while I was doing it she fell asleep, bless her!
I love art that has sewing on it - haven't got machine myself and keep looking out for a reasonable mini one as I'd love to add this element to my work...oh that wish list - ever increasing!! Happy WOYWW Esther x
i wish I could sew, I always love the look if stitches in papers or books!!!
I have a sewing machine and cannot thread the needle .....keep getting it backwards, wish you were here!!!
I wish you were here to help me organize too! Keep cool!
I know just how you feel, it was 46.2 here the other day in the shade! I only have ac in the bedroom so its all fans to the computer in this weather.
Cathx
I like to see a sewing machine in use!! Think we need a real close up of your pages.
Thank you for sharing your workspace - i can not get grips to my sewing machine on card, I am going to try a different one. Happy WOYWW! Thank you for visiting my blog and your lovely comment, you make me feel better about my stash.

Hi Elizabeth
sorry for not popping by for ages. Hope you are well... phew - those are high temps - and we moan that we don't get much sun but we certainly wouldn't be able to cope with that heat.
I love your sewing storage - mine is so pathetic, i'll blog it just to give you a laugh one day... it certainly makes even me smile each time i use it (erm, about once in a blue moon)!!!

it is hard to craft when you have sweat running off your face........Melinda
Hi Elizabeth: I am so glad you liked your gift. It just had your name all over it. Sorry about the weather. I hate it to be hot, it makes me cranky. Have a wonderful week. Blessings, Martha
I don't have room for a sewing machine in my tiny space, even if I did I don't know if I could sew straight on paper!
Hope the weather cools a little for you soon!
Chrissie
Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog!!! I really appreciate it.
Hope you are enjoying the heat and sewing!! I have a machine but it never goes where I want it!! lol far too fast for me. Love Chanelle xx
Hi, You have heat - I have rain! Something in the middle would suit us both! Fingers crossed... ikki
ooh I do like to see a sewing machine sewing paper! I like to think that I'm giving my machine a change of scenery - it must get bored sewing fabric all the time mustn't it! lol
That's hot! Don't see those temps here in Ireland! Although where I grew up in Canada it is known to happen.. he he. Bought a sewing machine to sew paper but feel safer experimenting with my kids clothes then my cards!!! Funny, huh? Robin
Thank you for your lovely comments & popping over to see my new work space. Your pics have just reminded me I need to set up my sewing machine!
Helen x
That heat would be waaay to hot for me. Happy sewing :0)

Golly Me Just read the post above. My the temperature is never like that here. It must be horrible for you. I would not be able to do very much in that heat.
Love the desk this week and next on my wish list is a sewing machine. THanks for sharing and popping by my desk, Hazelxoxo
Lovely new storage thingymy. Hope you don't melt by next week x
Wow Elizabeth, I'm going to stop whining about our paltry temperatures now! I think our highest so far this summer has been 96F. Makes crafting very, very hard, that's for sure. Love your sewing storage.
Hugs
Brenda
Cute storage for your sewing items. I hope it cools down for you soon.
I think I will have to ask for a sewing machine for my birthday - I look at all the projects on here and on WOYWW and am inspired!
I wish we had 104 degrees - we're lucky to reach 50 a the moment!
Love your little kitty!! and your blog!!
Thanks for your lovely comments on my blog and about the gesso problem, its just kinda gone gloopy and has a yellow tint to it and a weird smell, I think its time for the bin for that pot. The circles under my red (rubbish/trash) bag are gromlets and eyelets that came with the Big Bite machine made by the people who do the crop-a-dile. The 2 wall canvas's were made in class at Art from the Heart with Dyan whose the senior educator for Ranger in Europe, im so lucky she's a short drive away!! and the doll painting I did after I joined in a Suzi Blu petite doll class.
Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving your kind words. Yes, this is my first WOYWW, and I already love it. It takes me more time than I realized to visit everyone...
I have high admiration for everyone who uses a sewing machine for their art work since I am completely hopeless at sewing. A button is all that I can sew on...
Thank you for visiting my blog and for your lovely comments on my work desk. I love my copics and they are great to work with.My work area has 4 sides and I do try to keep each side for different things. Two sides are for card making & scrapbooking, 3rd side my computer and the 4th side my Cricut and I have just started jewellery making.
Julie
I'm back after reading your comment on my blog. The Slice is a small (about 6 x 6 inches) electronic die cutting machine by Making Memories.
Wow! Super organiser. My daughter has just come back from China & the temperature was in the 40's.. she just can't get warm now she's home!
Thank You for your kind comments re; the paint that had crackled in the pot!! I didn't feel so alone.. like someone understood. :)
I am happy to tell you I received a replacement in the post this morning!
I am sorry for not calling sooner.. what with Blogger playing up.. it won't let me leave comments.. then some keep disappearing & it won't let me upload photographs the first time.. I'm having to do them 3 times before they appear! I am wondering in Blogger is on a meltdown!!
Take care & have a lovely week. Gez. Oooh, nearly forgot.. the angels on your blog are gorgeous.
